New Ni no Kuni game coming to PS3, first images

After a long bout of silence on the subject of its Studio Ghibli collaboration game Ni no Kuni for the DS, Level-5 today revealed an additional Ni no Kuni game for the PS3, slated for a 2011 release.
Titled “Ni no Kuni: Shiroki Seihai no Joou,” it will be a whole new game, rather than an upgrade of the DS version, but shares common elements with its handheld sibling, like a similar overall plot and a giant spellbook shipping with the game. The DS version was retitled to “Ni no Kuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi.” In addition to the below images, the official websites both have new trailers, with the PS3 trailer showing the Ghibli-styled graphics in motion.
These two screens show a comparison between an animated scene and the PS3 in-game rendering of the same thing.
Ni no Kuni: Shikkoku no Madoushi is now set for a holiday release of December 9, 2010.
Finally, here are the logos for both games, the PS3 game on the left and DS on the right. Black and white seems to be a popular motif for games lately in Japan.
I got my hands on demo for Ni no Kuni DS at the Tokyo Game Show last year. I thought it was pretty nifty. If Level-5 puts on a similar display this year at TGS, the new PS3 Ni no Kuni game will almost certainly make an appearance.
