RPG Deals 12/4 – 12/10
By Russ | December 4, 2011 at 12:33 pm
Three decent ‘buy x get x’ sales this week make up this column.
Best Buy is offering a ‘buy 2 get 1 free’ sale on all titles $29.99 and above. As usual for this type of sale (including the sales below), the least expensive title gets discounted.
Toys R Us is offering a ‘buy 1 game get a second game 50% off’ sale this week. It would be a good time to purchase newer titles such as SkyRim.
In response, Amazon is offering a ‘buy 1 game get a second game 50% off’ sale this week as well. There is a wide selection of titles, including several newer releases.
Speaking of Amazon, there is an all video game Gold Box deal on Monday.
K-Mart has Deus Ex and Dead Island for $35 apiece this week.
This week’s tips involve credit card fraud. I’ve known two people whose credit card information has been stolen and used to buy goods in the past couple months. Here are some quick tips to greatly lower your chance of credit card fraud.
If shopping online, try to shop at places you are familiar with or display some type of protection against data becoming lost. Some stores will let you call in and make an order – be sure to capture an order number, the name of the person you spoke to, and the date and time o the transaction.
Keep your credit card with you when shopping at stores. At big chains like Target and Wal-Mart, there is almost no reason your credit card should leave your hands. Use the card machine at every counter. Some smaller stores may not have these machines, so keep the receipt and note the time and date the item was bought and the name of the associate who helped you.
Here is some advice should you be the victim of fraud:
- Immediately call the bank or institution of the card or account in use and cancel it. Print out and highlight the suspect transaction if possible.
- Check your other cards/accounts if you have them. Make sure no suspect transactions exist.
- Until you are absolutely sure of where the card was stolen, do not blindly accuse stores or employees of perpetrating the theft. Chances are the thief is not who you think it is, and you’ll just be a jerk for causing trouble.
- Along these lines, be nice to everyone you speak to. Raging against the people investigating your claims can make a situation worse.
- Do take note of places you bought merchandise from and avoid paying via credit/debit in the future. Use cash whenever possible for physical transactions.
- Consider the theft may have occurred on the bank’s side. If it has, cancel your accounts with that bank. They’ve obviously failed.
- If your wallet or purse has been stolen, repeat these steps for all cards contained in the package.
That’s all I got for this week folks. Happy Hunting.
Disclaimer: Deals may not be available in all stores. Deals may stop and any time. Prices in each store may differ. You can try different stores to mitigate this, and always ask if a store has the item before leaving the store. You might be able to get a raincheck. Many deals are in-store only, except where specified. This column brought to you once more by Corpse Party. My imagination made the blank screens worse. Good show!
