Shop Watch August 2014

By Russ | August 3, 2014 at 3:41 pm

Roughly on time.

There’s a lot of solid titles this month with a good amount of different games for different RPGamers. It’s also the best month for releases since May.

Titles shipping week of August 3

Sacred 3, published by Deep Silver (360, PS3). Sacred 3 was released late last month on PCs, apparently. The PS3/360 is the same game without any future nudity mods.

Titles shipping week of August 10

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited, published by NISA (Vita). It’s Disgaea 4; with extra content for its Vita release.

Risen 3: Titan Lords, published by Deep Silver (360, PC, PS3). I see Deep Silver is cementing itself as a company devoted to bringing Western audiences Western RPGs. Oddly, Risen 3 does not appear to use Risen and Risen 2‘s protagonist; instead telling a tale about a young man trying to reclaim his soul.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition, published by Activision-Blizzard (360, PS3, PS4, Xbone). This is Diablo III and its expansion, Reaper of Souls in one game. The PS3/PS4 version has an added dungeon where players fight monsters from the Last of Us and glamours for Shadow of the Colossus. That’s both kinda weird and kinda neat.

Tales of Xillia 2, published by Namco-Bandai (PS3). This would be my most anticipated title of the month if I weren’t broke on hobo-tastic levels. Two new characters take the stage, but events and persons from the first game re-appear. Plus it’s got one of the best battle systems in RPGs, so there’s that, too.

Titles shipping week of August 24

HyperDimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, published by NISA (Vita). I was not aware the first Neptunia game was due for a remake, but here it is. The girls are still moe personifications of consoles, and the game is still tongue in cheek.

Some advice: Tales of Xillia 2 CE if you can get it. PSN will have the regular game at $10 for Plus users at some point within three months of release.

The future: There’s more than a few niche titles collectors should be aware of coming out, and some decently major ones by the end of the year –KH 2.5, for example. This holiday season may be busy.

All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download may have varying or staggered release dates. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.  This column brought to you by further delving into alcoholism, which is surprisingly a MMORPG.
