RPG Deals 11/1 – 11/7

It’s that time of year when I write an advice column. Sorry, blurry photos of pixellated women!

Oh, and Target is offering a ‘buy 2 Wii games get 1 free.’ The usual disclaimers apply; least expensive game free and all that. Target’s selection is a little iffy depending on the store, so good luck.

Amazon’s Deal of the Day for today is The Wizard of Oz for the DS at $19 bucks. Come Monday the deal is gone.

Play-Asia is running a short-term sale on the Asian (but still in English, and region free) version of Overlord 2 for Xbox 360. Other versions range from $35-$55, but this one is on sale for only $19.90.

The most annoying time of the year has began again. It’s time to batton down hatches, shore up credit cards, and watch out for the lack of common sense subjugating shoppers in order to get gifts for the holiday season. It’s also time for me to dispense holiday advice.

The first and foremost piece of advice: There’s almost no reason to shop at a big-box store like Wal-Mart, Toys R Us, etc. Order it all online. Ship it to your workplace if you are worried about theft or a family member finding out. Have it shipped to a friend or family member’s house if necessary. You know the season is a bad time for shopping. You know the weather in the northern part of the country is probably going to make matters worse. You know gas is going up. You know you are going to be stressed out. Well, screw it all and let the mail guys sort it out. Choose shipping options best suited to your needs. In-store deals typically carry over online, so you’ll still be able to take advantage of those deals. But stop making yourself miserable and others miserable because you feel a need to pop out to the mall.

If you must go out, be nice. Alternatively, if you are working behind the counter, be nice. I understand this shopping season is crappy for everyone, but stop making it worse on yourselves and others. For customers and employees alike, if you can’t play nice go the **** home. Part of the reason is the whole ‘hate begets hate’ line of thinking, but on a personal level being a douche just means you are shooting yourself in the foot. For customers, having a crappy attitude is not going to make that employee help you out. Prepare to hear “I’m sorry, we don’t have that in stock.” on a popular item if you don’t behave. After all, the product is going out the door regardless if you buy it. A nice attitude may mean the employee will double check the stock for shipment that has not been recorded yet. For employees, having a crappy attitude means you may lose a customer. Alternatively, if you are a seasonal employee looking to get hired, a good attitude will go a long way. Who heck wants to buy from someone who can’t get their act together? Christmas is the time when everyone should have their customer service face on – even the customers.
