Sequel to the monster-battling Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker on the DS, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 will have over 300 individual monsters to raise, including new ones, popular series favorites, and altogether new types of monsters like Team-type and Large-type Monsters. Here’s a selection of some of the monsters unique to Joker 2, starting with the Spotted Slime, of the Slime Family:

Above is the Mechaburn, of the Dragon family: a mechanical dragon whose body is covered in impenetrable steel plates.

Oceanclaw, of the Nature Family, mainly lives in the sea. Its body is covered with fish scales, and it can
make rapid movements and execute a variety of attacks using its sharp claws.

The BubbleBobble, of the Material Family. It is said that this monster was originally four monsters that fused into one. Beneath its armor, they are stacked on top of each other, and it is rumored that they can be knocked off balance.

Grakos, of the Demon Family, is a monster that lives in a gigantic temple at the bottom of the ocean. It calls itself “King of the Waters.” Formerly this type of monster lived on land, but has evolved to survive underwater; however, it can still move and fight vigorously on land.

Nightlich, of the Zombie Family, is said to live in Hell, a watchman for the Dark Palace. It conceals
a terrible magic and wields a powerful sword.

Within the monster library, there are some “monsters” that are actually many small monsters working in concert, called “Team-type Monsters.” An example is the Petite Clan: consisting of a Petite Hero, Fighter, Mage and Priest, the four will attack their opponent one after the other, raining down many attacks in succession.

Monsters can be classified not just by family, but by size as well. A player’
s monster team can consist of up to three monster bodies, but some special
Large-type monsters are large enough to take up two slots on the team:

For example, the Golden Slime takes up two monster slots, but supposedly
its power exceeds that of two monsters alone.

The Gigantes boasts a build so large that it can’t quite fit on the entire screen.

Lastly, the Darthdragon might not be quite so large, but it is large and powerful enough to be considered a Large-type monster.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 is pretty freshly announced, and has no official website at this time. It is projected to hit Japanese store shelves on April 28.
