Halloween Haunts MMORPGs
By Heath | October 30, 2010 at 12:05 am
That’s the catchy headline I came up with. That’s it. Right there. There she is. Now shutup and read about what certain MMORPGs are doing for Halloween.
GodsWar Online‘s got a party goin’ on till Nov. 3.
Runes of Magic is sending players ona quest to catch five pumpkin spirits scattered throughout Dalanis within a certain time limit. As well, honoring Edgar Allen Poe’s famous poem The Raven, there’s an item shop sale on wings.
DC Universe Online is bringng out the Scarecrow:
In City of Heroes, players are in for a real trick-or-treat, as described by NCsoft:
Classic Costumes (Treats): Receive a special costume that can turn you into a Banished Pantheon, Coralax, Carnival of Shadows, Freakshow, or other characters.
Trick: If you’re not lucky enough to get a treat, a trick may spawn special Halloween enemies instead. If you and your friends manage to defeat one of the spawned enemies, you could receive special Halloween Salvage. Collect this Salvage and redeem it for one additional costume slot (giving a character up to a maximum of five total costume slots).
What MMOs are more Halloweenish than Dark Age of Camelot? I mean it has Dark right in the name!
* The Ghostly Harvest Quest offers players level 45 and up a dangerous adventure in the frontiers. Speak with John Tobin on the Cotswold Bridge, Foa Muldisson outside the Jordheim North Gates, or Nera by the road in Mag Mell to begin the quest.
* Treat sellers have been spotted selling sugary confections inside Meath, Erikstaad, and Caerwent.
* The consignment merchants would like to show you their Halloween spirit! Pick up the merchant and place it back down on your house porch and he will change into a Halloween outfit for you!
* Be aware adventurers! Ghosts haunt the streets of your capital cities as the pumpkin moon rises! Ghosts have also been spotted in Mag Mell, Aegirhamn, and Campacorentin Station.
* A trio of crazy old women have been spotted selling costume potions inside Camelot, Jordheim, and Tir na Nog.
Aion is running what seems to be a kind of Halloween/general autmn event up through Nov. 10. The Harvest Revel has players running down mean ol’ Shulacks who have stolen all the sugary treats. Sons of…! Get ’em, guys!
EverQuest II is getting into it with a myriad of additions, such as:
* Trick-or-treating and Haunted houses in Qeynos and Freeport.
* Ponchy’s quest line in Antonica.
* Decorations in the cities.
* Costume illusions for purchase and cast by Goblins.
* Haunted Mansion in Loping Plains.
* Neriak’s clandestine (and smashable) decorations
* New Haunted Hedgemaze and Headless Horseman in Nektulos Forest
* New rewards for some of the old Nights of the Dead Events
* New holiday recipe book.
^ Is anyone else kind of expecting these guys to start doing the Thriller?
The original EverQuest is also jumping with Halloween stuff. Just a few of them are listed here:
# The Trick or Treat Bag: Old Man Draykey will teach you how to trick or treat by showing you the proper greeting method. To practice, he gives you a trick or treat bag to go out and get candy with.
# Bone Collector: Barsin the bone collector boasts that he can create anything out of bones.
# Corporal Gravlin stands guard in Qeynos Hills as travelers from Qeynos attempt journey to Surefall Glade for a celebration. Unfortunately, the evil necromancer Pyzjn is causing trouble by raising undead to attack anyone passing through the region.
# Hungry Halfling: Mippie Diggs is hungry and craving pumpkin flavored food and drinks.
# Story Teller: Cathil the storyteller has been telling frightening fables to scare the locals.
World of Warcraft is getting in on the fun with Hallow’s End, which, despite their differences, both Hoarde and Alliance celebrate.
Whatever MMORPG you play, whether it’s listed here or not, I hope you enjoy it. Seasonal changes are one of the things that make these games cool, in my opinion. Happy Halloween!
