Shop Watch July 2011

Remember that Oblivion re-release that was supposed to come out last month?
It has been delayed until July 12.
It’s also this month’s only release.
This is to be expected should you take a moment of think about it. Console sales are slow during summer, though there are always companies which try and change that. On the flip side is portable gaming, which used to receive a good boost during the summer. This is due to vacationing families; particularly parents, who buy portable games to shush the kids during these trips.
This year, the new 3DS is out, putting a kibosh on companies wanting to release product for the now-older DS system. A similar situation is being set up for the PSVita, though the PSP has been awkwardly flailing for a bit, despite some stellar titles late last year and earlier this year.
So yeah, this summer is boring for RPGs. After all, how many times have you played Oblivion before?
Advice – Unless you haven’t played Oblivion. Then buy this; it’s good.
The future – Disgaea 4 and Solatorobo in September, Dark Souls in October, and Skyrim in November. August has almost no titles available.
All release dates are subject to change. Games available for download will have varying or staggered release dates. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.
