The Final Fantasy Type-0 Localization Problem You Might Not Know About
By Heath | September 29, 2012 at 6:09 am
Everyone’s wondering what’s happening with the Final Fantasy Type-0 localization right now. People are wondering if the PSP’s lack of popularity in North America is a problem, wondering if Square Enix is making a Vita version — what’s the deal? There are a lot of plenty legitimate questions and theories, but I’m going to submit one I haven’t seen yet. It’s the theme song. In the game’s beginning and ending, a J-rock song by Bump of Chicken, entitled “Zero,” plays. There could be a contract dispute between BoC’s record label and Square Enix regarding the royalties, use, or any number of things with an international version.

Lightning Crashes the party: new Final Fantasy XIII game coming
By Heath | September 1, 2012 at 10:31 pm
A new Final Fantasy game was announced this week, and it’s yet another adventure in the XIII universe. Not wanting to call it Final Fantasy XIII-3, Square Enix has named it Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Lightning will be the only playable character, the battles will be much more of an action RPG system than before, and it will make use of a time travel mechanic that some have described as being similar to that of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Below is a video containing the released images so far, and what had to be the first song you thought of when you heard this news (if you’re from my generation, at least).

Square Enix announced earlier that Final Fantasy XIII-2 will allow players to upload their game information directly to Facebook. This gives you more incentive to play it, if you’re worried about making sure all your friends have up-to-the-minute information on your gaming progress.

Xenogears fans teased with more music
By Heath | October 6, 2010 at 8:54 pm
Yasunori Mitsuda, who generally uses Twitter in Japanese (duh?), tossed out one in English today, saying “We start to make the orchestra arranged version of Xenogears! Please tell us your favorite music!” He links to the Square Enix Music official page of the upcoming album and requests that fans get in on the planning by voting for their favorite songs from Xenogears. Obviously, no final release date has been set for the album, as it is just entering the planning stages.

Hands-on with Square Enix games at E3
By Heath | July 5, 2010 at 11:13 pm
Ace Casino hit up E3 and worked the Square booth. He gives his thoughts on all of the games, RPG or not, below:
I had the honor of working as a Square Enix kiosk floater. That means I work as a grunt who watches the demo booths and makes sure no one attempts to pilfer a PSP or a headphone. As a person working the booths, I had the opportunity to play the demos to formulate my own opinions on them.

RPG Land Called It: Square Enix Announcement Not Shocking
By Heath | May 29, 2010 at 5:55 pm
The internet was abuzz with rumors, theories, dreams, and speculation about Square Enix USA’s next announcement, which an employee discussed on her Twitter, saying many people would be “shocked and stoked.” RPG Land, ever the voice of reason, told people it was not going to be a new game, but that the most likely game to be revealed would be a North American release of Four Warriors of Light. Well, we were right. Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light, selling for $35, will arrive in North America Oct.5 , 2010, almost a year after its Japanese release. See Janelle’s review of the game here. Also dig its official website. This is a solid game, but appeared on incredibly few of the dream lists that were popping up. Next time, be careful not to overhype yourself, internet. Furthermore, don’t let your romantic fantasies of not-yet-existant games blur your vision to the good titles that are right in front of you. …Which might be hard, with the other yet-mysterious Project X still looming on the horizon.
Square Enix prez notes Versus XIII not necessarily PS3 exclusive, internet needs breather
By Heath | May 19, 2010 at 9:47 am
Square Enix president Yoichi Wada, in discussing company finance, made a note of something internet readers might declare a “megaton” of sorts. It seems that Final Fantasy Versus XIII ‘s status as a PS3 exclusive is not set in stone.
