NIS America said goodbye to three key employees, meanwhile. The departed trio formed a new company called “acttil” in deliberate, grammar-killing all lowercase. The group intends to localize Japanese games, books, e-books, and whatever else they find interesting.

Gaijinworks is publishing Class of Heroes 2 for the PSP.  A digital copy should be available for download this month, while a retail copy may be available in June.  There is no concrete date on either release.

Last month I reported Sacred Citadel as a PC only title.  The game was released on the 360 and PS3 as well.

The future is much brighter starting in August.  May and June; not so much.

Best Buy is knocking $20 off the price of 3DS and 3DS XL systems.

Toys R Us is offering two games for $70 this week.  One choice is the recently released Dead Island: Riptide.  The others are not RPGs, but a slew of other recently releases as well.  Additionally, all games under $20 are ‘buy1 get 1 40% off’.

Remember: as the temperatures rise the sales of handheld games tend to increase.  Typically, store like to move these systems during the summer and tend to offer deals.

It has also been revealed that the nextbox will require an online connection for all applications, and that such a connection will be free, except for when it is connected, which will be always. The connection will be optional when not using the Xbox, but mandatory when it is considered a requirement.

Microsoft will be supporting our troops by cutting out the USB ports and instead favoring USA ports. The press release described the decision:

“U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A.”

Finally, the next Xbox will be powerful. How powerful? So powerful. Not only will it have 9 rams and a “harder drive,” but the system will be incompatible with common electricity outlets in favor of the most powerful source in our galaxy: the sun. Microsoft is reaching for the stars — literally — with this machine, making it completely solar-powered.

Our inside sources have confirmed that the next Xbox will make its debut at E3, unless it doesn’t, in which case we’re willing to bet that it won’t. If it does, you can bet that it will. We’re predicting that it either will or won’t, probably for sure.

Speaking of 180, it’s amazing to see the 3DS turn one in terms of RPGs.  Etrian Odyssey IV, Monster Hunter 3, Fire Emblem, and Soul Hackers have been released so far this year.  When combined with Shin Megami Tensei IV and Namco X Zone Vs. Dudes or whatever, that’s more RPGs this year than the first two years combined, if memory serves.  And there’s certain to be more games cropping up.

Ni no Kuni, Borderlands 2 and Diablo III are $40 each at Target

I can’t speak much for Diablo III, but Ni no Kuni is fantastic; in case our review didn’t tell you.  Best $60 I’ve spent on a much anticipated game in the past few years.  $40 is an excellent price for it.

The hour I spent with Borderlands 2 was pretty swank as well, though I am still waiting for a GOTY edition.  Don’t mind DLC when I don’t have to pay extra for it.

ArcaniA: Game of the Year Edition, published by Nordic Games (PS3).  This is a port of ArcaniA: Gothic 4 released on the 360 and PC with added content.  This same edition will be released in August on the 360.

Pandora’s Tower, published by Xseed (Wii).  An ex-soldier escorts a cursed woman through 13 towers in an attempt to save her life,  This is the last of the Operation: Rainfall titles to be released in North America.

Sacred Citadel, published by Deep Silver (PC).  Once again, the land of Ancaria is in danger and you’ve got to save it.  This title appears to be download only.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, published by Atlus (3DS).  This is an update of the original Soul Hackers, which has never seen an official release in North America.

Dead Island: Riptide, published by Deep Silver (360, PC, PS3).  More Dead Island fun for everyone!  The original cast is back with new people to swat zombies unapologetically in first person.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, published by Capcom (360, PS3).  Dark Arisen is the original Dragon’s Dogma with a ton more stuff.  Considering how little the original title hits below $40, this time it’s definitely a good buy.  I want my donkey-punching little page to smack down a griffin.  Again.

Titles shipping the week of April 29

Might & Magic Heroes VI: Shades of Darkness, published by Ubisoft (PC).  This time it’s the Dark Elves turn for the players to focus on in another M&M expansion pack.  This product appears to be a digital download only.

Soul Sacrifice, published by Sony (Vita).  Soul Sacrifice caps off a solid month of releases with one of the Vita’s potentially most anticipated games.  A little bit dungeon crawling; a little bit Monster Hunter; a lot of decision making – Soul Sacrifice looks to be the best title out this month in this author’s opinion.  We’ll see how it goes.

Some Advice:  Pandora’s Tower if you want it. A new Wii game when the Wii U is available?  Sounds like a title few stores will want to order. Soul Hackers is a possibility, but Atlus does reprints if the market wants the title. Over half of the titles this month are from smaller companies, so Day 1 sales help out a lot – but only if you’ve the cash and inclination.  Otherwise, most titles will be on sale or just have price drops pretty soon.

The Future:  Pokemon X and Y are on the horizon.  There’s a slew of RPGs appearing toward the end of the year and during the summer months, but the dates have not been nailed down yet.
