I normally don't celebrate 4th of July the way normal people do. Normal people buy fireworks, play with their kids, and what have you. I usually get drunk off my ass, often on other people's tabs. But my roommate for the longest time lived in a part of Washington where fireworks could not be lit in town, let alone sold, so this year I've stocked up on drink (3 24 packs of Bud in the bottle, several bottles of Lords and Black Velvet) and I'm cooking elk burger over the BBQ. Of course, I'm not actually buying any fireworks - I'm letting him do that. We've set aside over $100 for fireworks, which should prove to annoy at least some of our neighbors. I originally planned on some of my family showing up, but with my brother being in the hospital that's probably moot... so I might just have some friends over instead. I'll keep you informed.

Last year I had a cracker ignite a few feet from my ear. I think I'm just gonna stick to booze and sausages this year...

I completely lost interest in Fireworks around 16. Before that, we'd buy whatever we could afford, divide into teams, and begin our annual firework war. Seemed like a great idea at the time, but I can feel my age now when I dwell on it. So stupid.

So yeah, no fireworks for me this year. Maybe I'll start back when/if I have kids.

How are fireworks stupid if I may ask?

I think he meant the things he was DOING with them. People--especially kids--can do some pretty stupid stuff with fireworks.

Kids my ass. My friends are firework morons... A few years ago they managed to torch a decent percentage of my buddy Brandon's back lawn.

We make a huge ass platform because most of the things me and my friends blow off are not really stuff to fuck around with.

We had to bury a 5 inch steel tube 4 feet into the ground with a post digger in order for it to be safe for the 5 inch mortars.

Tonight is going to be amazing. We have this huge ass table for Flippy cup and beer pong. We made some tents out of wood and tarp. My friend is a capenter so that is how we got all that done. If I had to make those tents my self it would have taken me a year.

We got a few people last night to come out and help us make the rum punch.

I think the end result was a 5 gallon bucket filled with one and a half bottles of bacardi 151, one 2 liter of lemonade, one hand of regular bacardi, 4 packages of strawberry watermelon jello, bottle of malibu passion fruit rum, one two liter of ginger ale, a small bottle of lemon lime juice, 2 liters of ruby red squirt, 2 liters of regular squirt.

People are going to get fijucked up tonight.

I didn't do much this year. We used to climb up to the mine where they'd light off the big fireworks show and sneak onto the mining platform. We had to be sneaky as hell though cause if we got busted we'd be in big trouble. It was always really cool though. Directly underneath the big fireworks show and shrapnel would often hit us.

I had a BBQ with the family and then came home and played Dark Cloud 2. Heh. We had the awesome friends party over the weekend. And I got trashed. It was awesome.

Firworks that I personally saw lit up yesterday:

Some big ass potato masher looking thing. It was like 30 smaller crackers in one big bomb that took like fifteen seconds to completely go off. Pretty cool, real noisy but nothing much to look at.

About three dozen bottle rockets.

About the same amount of Black Cats.

Three big ass rockets that made all kinds of pretty sparklies.

This big exploder brick that I can't really describe since I was pretty far away when it went off.

In fact I was pretty far away while all this is happening... I just don't trust drunk people with pyrotechnics anymore.

I was sick most of the day (great timing >_<) but at night I was passively looking out the window once in a while to the people across the street's stuff. This one they lit didn't go off with the others they had lit simultaneously...so the genius decided to stand directly over the mortar launcher and peer down inside. It wasn't a HUGE one, but big enough, and any firework to the frickin' face is a bit dangerous. Yet here this guy was, looking straight down into that sucker. I was like "Oh man...am I gonna have to drive some idiot kid to the hospital?" I didn't, thankfully, but wow, the stupidity was filling the air.

Well if blowing up anthills is considered stupid, I don't want to be smart.
