I was gonna go on and on about how anyone who's even a semi fan of this series should already know all this but after watching parts 3 and 4 it didn't really matter. It was just fun to watch. Seeing IV and VI remembered so fondly and reading about the innovations (especially in VI with the sprite animation) almost brought back the nostalgia of carrying stacks of gaming magazines around anticipating their releases.

I found there was an awful lot about the first 3 games that I just did not know. Never knew it was gonna be Sakaguchi's last hoorah, never knew II's English translation was canned because of fear the launch of the SNES would lead to bad sales, never knew several of the "firsts" that it mentioned, and so on.

And yeah, I kind of "knew," but never really thought about/realized how much V did with the job system and what VI did with the sprite animations.

Wasn't it? I was impressed.

It's funny, because Zodiac Job System came in the mail last week, and there was a 20th Anniversary FF DVD included that had a sort of history feature like this, if you were to give each game about a minute and a half of screen time and not be able to understand the voice overs. But it's like the two were made by the same people. The crystals and numbers in the background were in both features, and both were covering the graphics, vehicles, battle system and all in a similar order.

I actually got the FFXII special Edition for the "documentary" on the series and I found that to be a fun watch as well.

The documentary in the SE edition of FFXII sucked. It was 20 minutes of "these games are fucking awesome BUY THEM NOW."
