Its not the fluorescent ones.... especially in the home.

Okay, they`re fine outside or in places you don`t want to relax in (garage, tool shed, basement, etc), but in the living areas of the home?

Yes, they save energy, but man, they are UGLY. The light is harsh, cold and white. At least the old-fashioned lights had a warm yellowish tint to them. Plus, some of those bulbs won`t fit into older lamps.

CFL's are great. When I moved into my apartment Jan of 08 I put CFL's in all my lights and I haven't had to change one since. I even keep one CFL lit 24/7 in a small lamp in my living room and a florescent cylinder under the cabinets over my kitchen sink, so I can get around at night. My energy bill is also constantly low.

Furthermore, I don't understand the white/cold light thing Aurian is talking about. I don't know if you've only seen florescent lights from old fashioned cylinder style bulbs, but modern CFL's give off a great light.

I'm not even one of those hippy tree hugger fucks, but I'm passionate about the use of CFL's now. They are way too convenient. Even when they do wear out, they don't explode and leave you in a dark room like incandescent bulbs. They even make CFL's for dimmer switches now, so I can light up the sexy in my dinette in case anybody ever decides to eat there.

I did. Didn't you read my post, idiot?

Florescent isn't just the fucking cylinders you see in drab office buildings anymore.

I got the new energy-saving ones, and they emit a bluish-white light. Very harsh and cold. The old-fashioned ones have a warmer slightly yellow light.

The nice thing about fluroescent is that they DO last long and don`t use up much power, so I do like them for non-living spaces, like outdoor lights.

Not sure if you got some shit brand, but I'm looking at my CFL endowed lamp right this minute, and it looks pretty yellow to me...

I have no problem with CFL and I hate the environment. The problem comes from the fact that they are just so fuckn awesome because they never burn out and they look just like regular lights. Not so sure where all the 'cold light' talk is coming from. Maybe the old florescents were like that but the new ones are just awesome.

Yeah, I haven't turned off my lamp in a year and a half. That's pretty bad ass.

I have bad memories of lampshades melting after being knocked askew into incandescent bulbs.
