Long time no see, guys. I haven't been on this forum in a few months, so I thought I'd re-introduce myself with one-o-these topics. =)
Well, I've already put exactly 6 hours into this game today, and I can say with confidence that I have another great RPG in my hands. I just saw the cutscene where Edge Maverick was appointed captain of the Calnus after meeting Faize on Aeos and finding the meteor fragment outside of the SRF-002 Balena. So far, there hasn't been very much to the story to get me that excited, but it's still early in, so that could easily change. All the same, I'm starting to like the feel of the game and the characters a lot more now. I was kinda put off by some of them at first, but now I'm looking forward to seeing them interact, particularly Welch, now that I think I'll have access to item creation.
Most of the time I spent playing, however, was leveling up and farming items to complete quests. I think I've done all the ones I could up to this point, and I feel like I've gotten used to the battle system now. It's pretty easy to rack up bonuses on the Bonus Board, and it's pretty common for me to be acquiring 110%-130% exp. bonuses and maintaining it for a long time. As long as you play skillfully, you don't have to worry much about your Bonus Board crumbling, and even when it does, you only lose about half of it, so it's not too hard to build it back up. I'm also working on accumulating monster data, having accumulated 100% data on all the monsters available in the Aeos area that I've explored up to this point. I only have 30% data on the boss I fought, so I assume there are others like it on Aeos somewhere. Hopefully I'll find the rest of 'em before long.
It's too early to say whether this game'll dethrone Fallout 3: GOTY Edition as my favorite game on PS3, but it's lookin' damn good so far. I'm confident that this is a memorable experience in the making, and I cant wait to sink more time into this game. =) _________________

There are only two games I want to play on the PS3 and those are Demon Souls and Tekken 6. That is all.
Can't believe you actually played an RPG not made in japan. _________________

Last I heard about Demon's Souls, they were closing down the online servers this March, so you might be out of luck. Still, might want to check around to see if it still holds true. _________________

The online is the neatest bonus for Demon's Souls, but far from the game's defining point. _________________ Buy World of WarCraft Women! |

Online has been extended through Oct. of 2011. The developers have been working on a new game thats working title is "Project Dark" that is supposed to be released around that time too.
Here's the little bit info released so far.

Demon Souls 2, immediately followed by Elder Scrolls 5? I guess I'll be saying goodbye to friends and family sometime next year... _________________ League of Legends |

Made more progress in SO4 yesterday. I just defeated Barachiel on the Celestial Ship after discovering what may be the cause of the Bacculus Disease on the second planet.
Strangely enough, Lymle isn't anywhere near as annoying as I initially thought she'd be. I actually find the overall dynamic of the cast to be really refreshing after some of the games I've played recently. Leveling her up didn't take long since I had a 110% exp bonus on my bonus board. She caught up to the rest of my group pretty quickly. I've also created some pretty powerful weapons/armor for my team with item creation. Edge is doing about 500-600 damage against these enemies with his new Flame Sword, so that's helping me clear through these enemies pretty easily.
I've decided at this point that farming monster data is pointless and takes too damn long to be worth it. I was doing it because I considered getting Platinum on this game since I'm enjoying it so much right now. But grinding enemies unnecessarily for this stupid data is only serving to hurt the pacing of the game. Not to mention that my level is so high at this point that the battles aren't even that challenging now. This kinda also reflects how I feel about Trophies in general this gen. It's nice to have bragging rights, but the demands of going out of your way to do meaningless sh*t just to improve your Gamerscore, or whatever, kinda just feels like its insulting my intelligence. Not that I have a problem with doing sidequests and extracurricular gaming, as long as it coincides with how I'd naturally play the game, but in this case, I really don't see any point in doing any more fighting or leveling up than necessary for item creation purposes and completing orders.
Overall, the game still kicks a##, and I'm expecting it to get even better now that I stopped farming monster data. Cant wait to see how the story develops from here. =) _________________

See that, LiQuid? Wein says you're stupid.
On a side note, I actually enjoyed the gameplay in SO 4. I just couldn't get past those glass-doll faces that everyone in the game had. The story wasn't too bad either. Gonna be nice because I'm in a good mood today and say, "Glad you're enjoying the game, Wein!" _________________ "The teen passed out during the ceremony and the town decided to drown the cow." |

Achievements are there just so developers can track how players play their games. People would probably be pissed if they found out that game companies were spying on them over the internet, but by adding a number to them and making it its own "game" now people are falling over themselves to get an achievement for sleeping with every character in a Bioware game. _________________ "True to the bullet pith on the enclose, Rocksmith allows you to beat the drum for legitimate hither any electric guitar into the proprietary USB chain that comes with the encounter..." - NEERGENCE, 12/02/2011 |

We get it. You called off work yesterday so you could play Dragon Age. _________________ "The teen passed out during the ceremony and the town decided to drown the cow." |

Nope. I didn't even get a chance to play any UNdead Nightmare. I tried firing it up but it made my nauseau even worse.
BEsides, I have already slept with everyone in dragon age except for Alistair. I just can't find it in my heart to be nice to that idiot. _________________ "True to the bullet pith on the enclose, Rocksmith allows you to beat the drum for legitimate hither any electric guitar into the proprietary USB chain that comes with the encounter..." - NEERGENCE, 12/02/2011 |

Made a lot-o-progress in Star Ocean 4. =) Triom succumbed to the same transformation as the Cardianon on the Celestial Ship I explored, and Lymle's grandpa was among the casualties. Though I'm more pissed about it because the shopkeepers in Triom were also killed, and I don't think I finished all the orders I could from them. x_x Afterwards, I completed the scenerio on the Cardianon Mothership where I got Bacchus on my team and discovered more about the meteor fragments, or Epiphanies of Guidance, or Grigori, or whatever, that have been raising hell all over the universe. Where I am now, I just entered a warp hole that led me to Planet Earth, in the year 1957.... Yikes....we're screwed... x_x
The characters in this game are coming together really nicely. Despite being such an odd, ragtag bunch, their personalities gel together in a good way. Cutscenes are elaborate and bristling with life and personality, and really help to flesh out the story and cast well. Admittedly, part of it is thanks to the private action system in this game. While SO2's private action system was a great way to interact with your party members and in towns, SO3's private actions were vague at best. In fact, I'm not even sure I remember them at all. At first, I was disappointed that all private actions in SO4 were going to take place in the Calnus, but now that I've done them, it's actually a pretty darn good approach, although I would've liked some private actions in towns as well. My favorites so far were where Lymle was trying to punch Welch even though she was only a holigram, and when she summoned Cerberus on the ship and it nearly bit Faize's hand. Having these kind of optional scenes with the characters being themselves really helps endear them to the player more easily.
The difficulty skyrocketed when I went to the Cardianon Mothership. Most of the enemies were fairly easy, but the Dragon Generals and Assault Dragoons were really giving me a hard time. Their relentless attacks were doing a number on my Bonus Board, to the point where I was lucky to maintain a 20-30% exp. bonus while I was fighting them. The boss on the mothership seemed nearly impossible until I realized that his weak spot was on his damn underbelly. x_x Then he went down in, like, two minutes. =p My only complaint about this part was how sparse the save points were. I was pretty much prepared for the lack of save points since that was one of the main issues I've heard about this game prior to getting it. But I hope during the next area I visit, they'll be less than an hour apart. x_x
There was something I was wondering, though. I assume the game has a New Game+ function, since that's apparently the only way to get 100% monster data--you only fight bosses once per playthrough and they only give you 30% data per fight. However, do your completed quests and orders also carry over to the next game as well? Because of what happened on Lemuris, I missed out on completing two of my orders so I probably won't be able to do them all during this playthrough at this rate.
Still, this game kicks a$$, and I'm pretty much addicted to it at this point. I love just about everything about this game, and I can only see it continuing to get better now that I finally have Mining skills and a wealth of new item creation recipes at my disposal. Can't WAIT to get Meracle on my team! She's the character I've been waiting to have in my party ever since I saw my first video of this game. =) So it looks like I have a lot to look forward to. =) _________________

Oh I get it. I know your game now. You type all this shit up on MS Word, then copypasta as soon as you get on RPGLand so you can spend the least amount of time possible on this site. Also allowing you to avoid the rest of our comments.
You cheeky bastard. I'm on to you. I'm f---ing on to you. _________________ "The teen passed out during the ceremony and the town decided to drown the cow." |
