Heh...jeeze man a person can only restrain oneself so much. If it gets him fired everyone should be fired unless my knowledge of human restraint is flawed.

Restraint is the name of the game. I know you'd get fired if you were to say some of those things to a customer here at 50. Same with my old job. There were plenty of times where I wanted to belittle the customer but knew I couldn't.

Maybe there is some flexibility there since you aren't dealing directly with a customer of your actual company.

We get monitored sporadically. Generally, they listen to you at random and you get a little sheet telling you how well/poorly you did. If they don't monitor enough people in a day, they may listen to the .wav files of your completed interviews. Most often, I know when I'm being monitored though.

uuuggghhh.

Me: (blah blah blah) Satisfaction survey about your Cingular GoPhone.
Person: I already have a GoPhone.
Me: Yeah, I know, thus the satisfaction survey. If now's not a good time I can try back like later...
Person: Why would I need another GoPhone?
Me: Hmm? Um, I didn't offer you one, mam. I couldn't sell you one if I wanted to. This is just a 3-5 minute survey about what you like and don't like.
Person: *Gets that cocky "Oh-I'm-gonna-school-you" tone* Listen. I have the GoPhone. I am a Cingular customer. There's no point in calling me.
Me: ...Except research, right? Cause that's what this is. I'm not selling anything. Cingular just wants to know what they're doing right and what they're doing wrong.
Person: So why don't you call someone who's NOT ALREADY A CUSTOMER!?
Me: Did you even hear a word I said?

Laughing People are terrible.

Question. While I understand that this could put you out of a job, why don't you guys just send out questionaires in the post instead of phoning everyone and having them assume you're trying to sell them something? If these people cared enough about how <company A> is handling them as a customer they'd take the few minutes to checkmark some boxes and slip it back in their mailbox...

I dont mind customer surveys. I think ever once in a while it wouldn't hurt for the customer to give positive/negative feedback before they just up and cancel without another word about it.

I don't want to give them the satisfaction unless they pay me for taking the survey Smile

Then don't complain about anything when stuff happens that you don't like :p

Plus, I don't know about other places, but we can only code you out of the calling list if you say that you in fact would not like to participate in the survey. "Hangups" are simply marked down as "Call again later."

I don't have any complaints with what you do (telemarketers bug me, but what you do is more courtesy than anything else), but that's just asinine. Usually when someone hangs up on you it's a hint that they don't want to be bothered. Sure it could be because they are assuming you are solicititing, but does that make them less likely to assume you're soliciting the next time you call?

We have to because it could have been a babysitter, kid, or some other not-the-person-we're-looking-for =/

Don't try to justify it Smile You know you hate your job.

I have told my phone company that I'm a happy customer and don't call me again, they still do it.

If I have a problem, I call them myself and bitch. They pay people to call to get information for surveys so they should pay the people who take the surveys. You can get paid to do surveys so what's the point of giving them free information especially if you have no issues? They are the one that should be paying for their research. If it's a non-profit organization then that's a different story altogether
