So what do you guys listen to and/or what are you listening to right now? I can tell you guys are all major nerds so I'm looking forward to reponses.
I myself am kind of a nu-emo hipster. I like a lot of really crappy 'emo' bands like Thursday and Coheed & Cambria, but then I like a lot of cool ones like, uhh, well none of the emo I listen to is cool unless you're 13 (which I sadly am not), so I fail there. On the other hand, I'm constantly digging up new indie groups. Examples of what I've been listening to lately are Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Imogen Heap, Broken Social Scene, etc...
That's just recent stuff though. I listen to a ton of stuff, spanning decades. My Winamp playlist has lots of classics like The Beatles, The Who, Zeppelin, etc, as well as a lot of early 90's grunge rock that I grew up on and late 90's pop punk and ska, which is a phase I've never grown out of (I still look forward to every new Less Than Jake record).
Right now I'm listening to Imogen Heap - "Just For Now" but it's off to bed now. You guys go. _________________

Nerd indeed. I love Video game and movie soundtracks. I have a 60+ gigabyte folder of video game/anime soundtracks. Generally i'm a fan of orchestrated and piano collections.
But i'm equally into early to mid-90s rock. I'm a HUGE Nirvana fan, i love older STP, i like some Rage, and have always liked Green Day(including their recent albums). My absolute favorite band of all time is The Smashing Pumpkins. I mean, i probably listen to these guy 200/365 days a year. I can try to listen to something new, but in the end it all comes back to the pumpkins. I try to keep an open mind, but i simply dislike 99% of all music nowadays.
Exceptions of bands still kicking around that i enjoy: Korn(though i don't like this new one much), Deftones(i f---ing love deftones, fantastic), Disturbed is pretty sweet as well. I still like Foo Fighters a good bit too.
However, if there is ONE CD that has come out in the last few years that COMPLETELY took me by surprise, that would have to be dredg: Catch without arms. Just a fantastic album, and one everyone should try. It's a softer rock, with just a really good vibe. I'd be glad to hook you guys up with MP3s of dredg if you'd like, just Private message me or something. |

I'm not listening to anything right now at work but my CD case at home includes bands like Dayglo Abortions (most recently listened to), The Casualties, Dead Kennedys, Quincy Punx, Blatz, Filth, Crimpshrine, Pinhead Gunpowder, DRI, The Exploited and so on.
oh and I didn't even mention my favorite band, Operation Ivy. I'm more into the hard stuff but OP IV is classic, nostalgic and almost the only Ska I enjoy. _________________

I was just asking because they played with probably half the bands you named. I am pretty good friends with them. We get drunk and play Risk and video games a lot. _________________

That's cool, they don't seem that old so must have been some newer shows.
I've seen the Quincy Punx play in Minneapolis at Triple Rock but they played with Code 13 and some other band that wasn't that great. _________________

Musak?
well first off my list is going to be completely different then all of yours.
I like hip-hop...but me I'm more of an old school hip-hopper..
I like the early 90's era the most.
A lot of this west-side rap nowadays is complete bull$hit!
I also like Reggae, Dancehall, some alternative...
one of my favourite groups is N.E.R.D because of their ablity to jump between different genres and produce wicked beats...
but I ultimately like artists like Jay Z, bad boy family, Notorius B.I.G, LL Cool J, wow the list goes on...I'll name some more later...
In terms of rock I think the only group I can stomach is Linkin Park, I don't mind them, oh and Evanessence (when they where still together)
any group similar to them I can probably handle.
buttom line is I can pretty much well enjoy any type of music as long as the beats good... |

My list is pretty much like Q's accept some additions...I like some dance, techo, and house music as well too....cuz i'm all about the beats...that hit tha streets....ya heard???
I listen to more pop rock then Q though....stuff from Good charlette....green day....bands similar to those guys.....and not as much rap anymore either cuz it all sounds so retarted...mostly hip-hop.
Ya Pharrell is like my most favorite idol too cuz he's so versatile....
HEY how about Kevin Federline eh??? isn't his songs the $h*TT right now??? lol...I'm being sarcastic about this...... _________________

After everyone gets their initial post out of the way this will become the 'what are you listening to now' thread, so feel free to let us know what we should be listening to, were we you.
I'm listening to The Shins - "Saint Simon" from Chutes Too Narrow, which has nothing to do with the fact that I finally saw Garden State a few days ago. _________________

Just listened to Worlds Apart from And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, start to finish. I never really liked as much as Source Tags and Codes, but it's really started to grow on me the last couple of weeks. _________________
