I've been racking my brains trying to remember the name of a game I played and loved as a kid, it was so long ago I'm not sure of many things.

The thing I loved about the game was that you could recruit a variety of different NPC's by talking to them in a tavern and then defeating them in a dual.

This game was either for the NES or the SNES.

I have spent a lot of time searching for this game on the web and I always get directed back to Dragon Quest 3, which if I remember correctly, recruitment was automatic requiring no battle. I don't think that there have been many RPG's which have employed this system of recruitment.

Sorry if this is a really tentative and unhelpful description, but any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Unhelpful description, shit thread. Try Shadowrun, maybe? Otherwise come up with something better.

In Inindo: Way of the Ninja by Koei on the SNES, you could recruit over a dozen different NPC's. You would typically duel them if their level was equal to or higher than yours. At least that's how I remember it.

LiQuid!'s just an asshole, but if you ignore him the forum gets something like 30% smaller, so you have to listen to him anyhow. Just don't take it seriously.

No problem. Inindo is actually my third favorite game ever.
