I'd love to finally play this. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a play-asia deal.

Janelle's been playing the PS2 version (which this announcement reminded us, oh yeah, we had...) and it is cool as hell. Hard game but all good.

It has gotten less hard, but way more excellent. Pretty interesting game.

All you do in battle is either press the button to rotate your rows of characters, or press the button to run away. There also might be a button to do a one-shot summoning spell under some arcane conditions. The whole meat of the game is party-building, which is addictive, and must be done constantly because you'll be cycling characters out of your party every 3-10 battles. If you've built your party and arranged them correctly, you can win; otherwise, you will lose. It isn't even possible to mash X or level grind for victory in this game!

It has its share of problems (bad interface and no cutscene skipping, story sequences are mostly talking heads, subtitles don't even come close to syncing up with the narration), but Venus and Braves is a good time. If they make dialogue cutscenes skippable in the PSP version, tweak the menus, and maybe add some animated cutscenes (Wow, never thought I'd be actually asking for those.), it'll be an awesome game to have on the go.
