I think I remember a couple of people here being interested in the book series this is based on. It looks like it will be on HBO this year or next. Eddard Stark is portrayed by Sean Bean (Boromir in Lord of the Rings). And yes, Peter Dinklage (Underdog, The Station Agent, In Bruges) will be playing Tyrion Lannister.

I'm like half way through the first audio book. It's pretty good but I'm too lazy to sit around listening to a british guy talk about fantasy land.

Also, I knew this TV show was happening like three years ago. I'm not even kidding.

Yeah, there were reports of pre-production activity as early as 2007 but now it's actually done.

Can't. f---ing. Wait. Maybe seeing his work on screen will prompt Martin to finally keep writing the series and finish the 5th book. And audiobook format does not do a series like this justice. It's a little too big, there are a few too many names/families that really it's best to read with the reference section in the back or at least the ability to back track without having to hit rewind.

Uhh, the audiobook works absolutely fine, stop being such an insufferable elitist. You don't get to have a wacky British guy act it out in voices for you.

ok. So far all I've learned about this series is:

books vs. audiobooks & elitism = LiQuid's buttons.

Just finished the first book and started the second. I'm tempted to just spoil everyone on it to be dick. I wonder how they are going to have a 13 year old girl get pregnant and a brother and sister f---ing like rabbits. The incest I don't think will be a problem, but there sure is a lot of child abuse and underage f---ing in these books. The next book even has underage gir rapes. I'm thinking they just won't mention the kids ages andleave it at that. Cause aq 13 year old Dany getting plowed by a 30 year old not-Mongol may be a little racy even for HBO.

It's funny because the underage f---ing is only underage f---ing according to modern sensibilities. I'm not into f---ing 12 year olds, but that's just kinda the way it was.

Anyways, Skins (chittyshittybangbang UK teen drama and recent MTV adaptation) has kids f---ing left and right, so hopefully that'll have paved the way.

If I understand what I've heard, it sounds like the Stark children and Dany will be a couple of years older in the show. They'll probably cut most of the racy stuff unrelated to the main plot too.

Jon Snow looks like an ass. I pictured him being more bad ass looking being a weather beaten bastard fighting on the northern most boarder and just generally being all sorts of kick ass. Ghost looks cool though. But they did an awesome job in general with the casting. I couldn't have picked better people to play Littlefinger and Tyrion. I think those two are gonna knock their roles out of the park.

I agree about Jon Snow, but at least he's got a beard. Who's playing Littlefinger?

Every time you and Jones use the word fuck in your posts it makes your point more relevant to me.

Honestly you should use it more often.

Great fit. He's got that dry humorous delivery to be Tyrion. I'm guessing they just brush over age and keep the f---ing. Like hey, it's Daenerys. She's....Daenerys! And she's going to the tent to bang Khal Drogo in the mud...wouldn't ya know it!? Next scene! A lot of the f---ing is sorta essential in the books.

Yeah, that's Tyrion but Littlefinger was the nickname for the devious royal treasurer, Petyr Baelish. He's doesn't have any major parts in Game of Thrones but he's a principle figure in Feast of Crows.

Aidan Gillen (link). He's the dude that played the new mayor in The Wire. He is one of my favorite characters in the book. He has so much to do with absolutely everything. He's awesome.
