You can't root for a mute! Those words rhyme and it sounds weird!

Omega, anytime you want to root for anyone it should be for Bronn. Bronn is awesome. Probably one of if not my favorite character in the books. Or root for Sandor Clegane. Him and Bronn should have a buddy cop off shoot series where they travel around Westeros solving crimes... then rape and murder people.

I wish Lyoto Machida was in this series. It'd make everything so much easier. He's a dragon and has the best Karate. Plus, he speaks and doesn't have alzheimer's.

Oh god.... now I have to look at her ugly pig face for nearly all of season 3 and 4.

She's Loras' sister and Renly's wife. She won't really do anything until the very end of CoK and you really don't get to know her until SoS. She's pretty cool, but her grandmother is totally badass. The Queen of Thorns.

Well I mean I know who it is now that I've read the article but that seems like a weird ass casting announcement to make for a character that won't even be featured until the end of the season, unless they do some weird out of order style shit like Renly/Loras's shave and a blowjob (2 bits!) scene.

I've already seen her boobs though. That means she is a trollop and I don't care for her.

Great series. Tempting me to read, except I don't read good or do other stuff good. Plus I want a guarantee that the last of the books will actually happen. I demand closure before I leap into something, lest another Wheel of Time situation unfold.

Wheel of Time was completed by Snaderson though wasn't it? Most fans are kinda hoping GRRM will die and Sanderson will finish ASOIAF up for him anyways. Cause he will finish it with in like 2 years.

The final three WoT books were written by Sanderson, yes. Well, I don't know if he's actually finished with the last one, but it's supposed to be out sometime this fall. The last two were great though, and while it's sad that Robert Jordan passed away, at least his series was left in capable hands.

I just started watching this, and I'm wondering, how closely does it follow the book? Like, could I watch it then start reading book 2 without missing anything major?

All major events are covered to the best of my memory. At worst you're missing a good amount of detail since the first book is rather boring and its sole function is to establish the world and all the relationships between the characters.

I say just jump in at book 2 and check a wiki if you're confused on anything. Or just wait for season 2 since it's just as good and far more exciting seeing a generic ass fantasy series like this when it's a big budget TV show, something that hasn't ever happened, and not just an epic, toilet paper-esque series, since they are a dime a dozen.

I think you got that backwards. Book one has a lot of things going on all the way through it. The second book is nearly all moving people into place for the BAD ASS thrid book. The series covered most of the major things but skipped on a TON of things.

Stuff like Howland Reed, Gregor's pillaging and Beric Dondarrion, The Tower of Joy, what happened with Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, Jon's parentage, and one of the biggest things in the entire series "Promise me Ned" was totally left out.

I'm sure they'll come back to all of that later, but stuff like the Tower of Joy, "Promise me Ned", and Beric/Gregor has MAJOR MAJOR impacts on nearly everything else through out the rest of the books.

Read all the books man, the show is just as good knowing everything ahead of tme anyways as they are adding things in all over the place.

Uhh, I don't remember anything vital regarding any of that stuff from the first book. Most of the stuff you're talking about is just flashback/explanation stuff that happened in the past that is easily implied instead of shown.

Also what the happened between Beric and Gregor? Beric was sent to arrest him, but they never showed anything between them because there was no PoV character with them. Are you just making stuff up?

Are you suggesting that flashbacks that alluded to Jon's parentage and the events of the Tower of Joy don't matter? The most exposition given to those events is in Ned's jailed chapters and all those events directly effect every thing afterward. It is probably the single biggest issue hanging over all of the books. Well that and the Harrenhall tourney which directly lead to the climax which was the Tower of Joy. I just don't get where you're coming from on this to be honest. It is almost singularly important and if he skips the first book he will miss out on the massively deep layers of foreshadowing and red herrings that have come up along the way. You may need to read it again or something.

Also the Beric/Gregor stuff funneled in through Sansa's later chapters so you found out what happened to them. Which makes a rumor a few chapters later seem really odd but it is very deep foreshadowing.

If anything they alluded to Jon's parentage MUCH more in the first season of the show than they did in the book. All the minor stuff that you're saying could EASILY be outlined in later episodes of the show (maybe to bring Bean back for a cameo return?) and are hardly would I would call vitally important to the story, even continuing with the books.

I'm saying that you are overselling what is single sentence stuff in a wiki or summary entry. This shit isn't f---ing Shakespeare dude, it's generic high fantasy.
