Did you ever think this was possible!?! The
wonderful world of Disney meets square? Oh it's possible all right
and it's done a la Squaresoft style.
The story begins with three kids, Sora, Riku, and Kairi who live
on an island world called Destiny Island. In their world they would
laugh and play but always wondered what other worlds existed outside
their own. Then one day fate takes a turn in that direction, darkness
invades their land and Sora wakes up in another world, traverse
town with his two friends gone.
Meanwhile in the world of Disney castle, Donald and Goofy are set
out on a quest ordered by King Mickey to find the missing "key"
so they travel to traverse town also. Sora and the Disney crew meet
paths and the journey begins. Kingdom hearts defines the meaning
of cameo appearances. As the crew travels across worlds they encounter
a lot of familiar Disney faces like: Tarzan, Little Mermaid, Peter
Pan, Dumbo, Bambi, Aladdin, and final fantasy characters like: Cloud,
Squall, Aeris, Yufie, Tidus, Sephiroth, and more, more, more!!!

Sora and the gang

Although some people might get
turned away because of the fact that Disney is apart of the game
this does not in any way mean that it's a game for kids. This game
will test your fingers to the max. Kingdom Hearts gameplay is similar
to games like brave fencer musashi, but is done completely 3D. Everything
in Kingdom Hearts is real-time, so battles appear right on the same
screen and don't switch. The system mimics the N64 Zelda game, Ocarina
of Time, but with a few adjustments. There is a battle menu that
lets you cast magic, equip weapons, and use items. Also as you progress
threw the game you learn how to use character summons, and Sora
and the gang even get new battle skills and team moves. Even though
there is a lot of characters in this game, one of the problems is
the fact that you only get to control Sora. The other Disney people
in the game help aid you in the quest but you never get to manually
control them aside from you setting some automatic gameplay actions.
It would have been cool to actually "use" some of the Disney and
Final Fantasy characters instead of just Sora. To travel to different
lands Sora, Donald, and Goofy, use a gummi ship. What is a gummi
ship? No it's not made out of candy! Well it's a Lego looking space
ship...Yeah...my thoughts exactly! Why Squaresoft choose to do this
is beyond me, but it fails to leave a lasting appeal on me. Gummi
ships are customizable Lego planes that allowed the team to travel
to different worlds, this was meant by Squaresoft to obviously be
a fun mini game, but it fails to do just that. The ships are weird
looking and hold no purpose to even be in the game. Squaresoft must
have run out of ides to make the team travel but still wanted the
smaller kids to enjoy the game with, with...THIS..ideal..Booooo!

Kingdom Hearts has great looking graphics.
When you view the opening CG cut-scene, you'll understand why. There
is a booming soundtrack performed by a famous Japanese pop star
in the background of a beautifully done CG scene. This scene really
kick starts the game because of the emotion that is portrayed in
it.
Aside from that, the in-game movies flow well. The great animation
lets you think, "Am I playing a videogame or watching a Disney movie?"
The characters interact smoothly in movie scenes and the voices
in the game are not fake, every character's voice is the real actor
that plays that character in the Disney cartoons. The music in this
game was incorporated well. As you move to different worlds the
soundtrack matches that of the Disney character you are presently
trying to help.
Kingdom Hearts is a fun action RPG that deserves
a rental at first. It's only worth buying to a selected audience,
FF Fans, and Disney fans. Aside from that, other RPG players may
want to examine this game first before pulling out their debit card.
