My Pokemans: let me region lock them

By Heath | September 19, 2010 at 11:17 am

For many people, importing games to avoid waiting around for localization has become very popular these days — RPGs often some of the most imported titles out there. But in the case of Pokemon Black & White, gamers should be given a heads-up, as the title is region locked for the DSi. Those with classic-style DS systems and DS Lites can still play any region’s version of the game, but some DSi-enhanced titles hve been locked to DSi’s of their regions. Thanks go out to Play-Asia for making this note.

Yakuza New Chapter – TGS hands-on impression

By Heath | September 18, 2010 at 7:40 am

Sega has been taking some of its best-selling console titles into handheld territory recently, from Valkyria Chronicles II earlier this year, to Kurohyo: Yakuza New Chapter, due out this month in Japan.  One of the biggest differences in the VC transition was that the huge battlefields had to be broken up into several smaller chunks; something similar was required for Yakuza‘s PSP debut.

Disagea will always be on PlayStation, Disgaea 4 early details

By Heath | September 17, 2010 at 12:40 pm

With Disgaea 4, Nippon Ichi has addressed an issue which almost every RPG fan has talked about at some point, be it as a complaint or a joke: the aesthetics of the series. The pixelated sprites didn’t tend to bother dedicated fans, but once things got to the PS3 level with very little visual change, a lot of people began to wonder what was up.

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy – TGS hands-on impression

By Janelle | September 16, 2010 at 8:32 am

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy hit the Tokyo Game Show with the now-famous two new playable characters (FFIV’s Kain and FFXIII’s Lightning), so I picked it up to play for a bit. If you weren’t expecting the game to be basically the same as the first, prepare to be astounded. If you were, great! I can skip to the part where I tell you what’s new and interesting.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together – TGS hands-on impression

By Janelle | September 16, 2010 at 6:09 am

After playing Tactics Ogre: Wheel of Fortune (to be called Let Us Cling Together in North America) at the Tokyo Game Show today, I don’t really have very much to say beyond “Well done, Square Enix.  Solid port/remake/whatchamacallit!”  The demo showed that this game will be great-looking and great-sounding, and will have none of the lag or excessive load times that sometimes plague other ports when they make the jump to PSP. Some changes might bother purists or fans of the original, though.
