Shop Watch June 2013

Two re-releases plus one mash-up equals June 2013.

And The Last of Us. But that’s not an RPG.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, published by Bethesda (360, PC, PS3). Bethesda replaces the words Game of the Year with Legendary Edition, but players get the gist. This is Skyrim with all the garnishes – Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn, and lots of mafuggin’ shouting. Legendary shouting. In one package.

Project X Zone, published by Namco-Bandai (3DS). This video game is a clusterhump of Sega, Capcom, and Namco-Bandai characters. Crossovers are one of those things big in Japan but the US craps all over with the happiness and ferocity of a flu-ridden tyke. Expect more Easter Eggs and references to Super Robot Taisen games than there are gamers who understand said references. Either way, it’s the closest I’ll see to Valkyria Chronicles III in the US, so I’m game.

Muramasa Rebirth, published by Aksys (Vita). Not a game with an expected remake but Vanillaware has yet to not rock me to the core. Previously seen on the Wii, Muramasa Rebirth adds new… DLC? A limited edition is also available.

Some Advice: Wait. All across the board. These aren’t bad titles, but there will be price drops. Skyrim will probably see a few deals.

The Future: July starts off a PS3-centric RPG fest to last through August. Although the 3DS will see a ton of love with Shin Megami Tensei IV. The world will see the newest version of Final Fantasy XIV at the end of August.

All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download will have varying or staggered release dates. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.  This column brought to you by Michael Bay. Murica!
