Shop Watch October 2011

By Russ | October 2, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Dark Souls is this month’s top title.

Demon’s Souls is one of my favorite video games of the current era.  The level design and challenge the game offered quickly became one of the best games of 2009.  It’s odd, because I seriously looking forward to Dragon Age: Origins, and when that turned to out to be a dud, I turned to Demon’s Souls. Perhaps it made the game that much sweeter?  I dunno, but it does mean I’m looking forward to Dark Souls.

Titles shipping the week of October 2

Dark Souls, published by Namco Bandai (PS3, 360).  This is what I’ll be playing this month.  Don’t let the supposed difficulty of the game deter you.  There’s a lot of fun to be had in figuring out how to make the best out of your situation, with a little bit of desperation thrown in since games of this type punish players for dying.

Titles shipping the week of October 9

Might and Magic Heroes VI, published by Ubisoft (PC).  A prequel to the previous title, Heroes VI looks to be set 400 years prior.

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny, published by Natsume (PS3, Wii).  Looks like this got pushed back a month.

Titles shipping the week of October 23

Pokemon Rumble Blast, published by Nintendo (3DS).  Pokemon are literal toys for your fighting amusement, and there are over 600 to collect.  Jeezum Crow, Nintendo!

Cursed Crusade, published by Atlus (360, PS3).  The title is pretty much truth in advertising.  Set during one of the Crusades, Cursed Crusade aims to show players the dark, seedy – perhaps even cursed – underbelly of slaughtering people based on their religious beliefs.  Or the main character could be looking for his dad.

Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns, published by Natsume (3DS).  You know what?  We do this dance every year.  The games are fun, but like Pokemon, you know the drill.

Some Advice:  August’s release of Devil Survivor: Overclocked is a hard game to find apparently.  Amazon has it listed for around $70, and Atlus has yet to confirm a reprint.  Actually, it looks like Persona 2 for the PSP is suffering from the same problem.  Hopefully, Cursed Crusade won’t have the same fate.

Everything else this month will drop in price.

The Future:  SkyRim in November.  That’s big, right?  As usual about this time of year, a bunch of stuff is also around the 2012 corner.

All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download will have varying or staggered release dates. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.
