Top 5 Most Anticipated RPGs – September 2011

By Heath | September 25, 2011 at 8:08 pm

As of right now, these are the most anticipated RPGs. These games do not necessarily come out this month or even this year — this is only an anticipation gauge. (We have to say again: all games on this and future lists must actually be officially announced, so we can’t put stuff like “Final Fantasy XXX” or “World of Warcraft 2,” even though that would be awesome. A game is no longer eligible for voting once it ships in North America.

I know one game on my personal list would be Xenoblade for the Wii. I’m mad as hell that Nintendo of America seems to have no interest in such a game. If you are too, give it some votes in the next round of the top 5.

5) Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)
So that it didn’t steal Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s thunder, Square Enix kept this game far, far away from the Tokyo Game Show. You probably won’t hear anything new about it until after XIII-2’s release, even. And no, the recent headlines all over the internet about “Here’s new news: the game is being developed!” don’t count. I’m not surprised to see this game fall down from its previous #2 spot, but I’m surprised to see it hanging onto the list. Getting more action than Diablo III? Man, what is goin’ on?

4) Tales of Xillia (PS3)
Tales of Xillia recently took Japan by storm, selling half a million copies in just its first weekend. While Tales of Graces F, and enhanced port of the Wii Tales game has been announced for North America, it’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about it and gamers already have their eyes on the next one.

3) Ni no Kuni (PS3)
RPG demos don’t usually impress me much, but what was packed into the 4 demos Janelle and I have played of this game was amazing. We played two different demos at TGS last year and two more this year and were blown away at both shows. The exploration and sense of adventure in this game are off the charts, in addition to it being one of the prettiest games on PS3. The DS title has a wonderful story told with an outstanding script, so expect this one to similarly stun you.

2) Final Fantasy Type-0 (PS3)
I’m surprised to see this one getting a lot of votes as well. I mean don’t get me wrong, *I* am cautiously optimistic, but I didn’t expect *you* would be this excited for a PSP game. And I know *I* play a lot of PSP these days but I didn’t know *you* in North America saw the PSP as anything but dead. And I know that *I* aw forget it that bit is done.

1) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PC, PS3, 360)
The Elder Scrolls series is pretty much the king of Western RPG franchises, so you can imagine any new title would draw a lot of attention and votes, such as Skyrim has been doing ever since its announcement. On 11/11/11, you can either enjoy the world of Skyrim, or go outside and enjoy the regular world with 90% less nerds walking around in it.
