Plenty of new Disgaea 3 media has surfaced recently, as well as a few details on its plot and gameplay.
The story’s premise sounds somewhat similar to the first Disgaea, as a young man named Mao is trying to become king of all demons. Though, in this case, the boy’s father and current Demon King is still alive. Mao doesn’t know entirely what becoming a “hero” entails, but figures he must do just that if he wants to be king. His friends, particularly Rasberil (Raspberry?), aren’t so big on this idea, so like any good friends, they would rather he do evil.
Another character entering into the mess in Almars, who has come to fight the demon king on an ever-classic, impress-the-princess mission. Almars, however, has only heroic ambition to fight with, lacking real strength. Presuming Mao and Rasberil are in trouble, Almars charges to the rescue, and ends up captured by Mao.
Disgaea 3‘s battles will work very, very similarly to those of the previous games, though there are some additions. Geo “Panels” are now Geo “Objects,” being 3D blocks instead of 2D panels like they were before. They work pretty similarly to the Geo Panels from the original, demonstrated in more detail in some of the screens below.
Disgaea 3, exclusively for PlayStation 3, is currently unannounced for North America, but is a likely release some time in the summer of 2008, if pattern continues from previous series installments. The game will be out January 31 in Japan, selling for 6,800? (about $60) for the normal game and 8,880? (about $77) for a special edition.
