SquareEnix vies to acquire Eidos

Square Enix has announced it had launched an £84.3 million acquisition bid for UK publisher Eidos, home of games such as Tomb Raider, Hitman, and Age of Conan.

The bid was made one month ago on Jan 14, with the offer to purchase the struggling UK publisher at 32p a share, over three times more than Eidos’ share price when the bid was made.

Square Enix, has recently made a variety of investments to expand its reach west. SquareEnix said the Eidos buyout would be “highly complementary” to its business strategy.

Great, just what we needed, an anime, angst ridden Lara Croft running around in a cyberpunk world with a crappy battle engine…
