RPG Deals for 3/1 – 3/7

Sometimes you lose some.
There’s not many deals this week. Circuit City and Best Buy are the focus for this week’s column, and after this month Circuit City won’t be the focus of anything.
Circuit City is in its last month of business. Pick through the remnants, but the key deals are going to be the in-store kiosks and remaining TVs. Many places are selling the systems in the kiosks for a low price, if you don’t mind a used system. Wait and hope the TVs are there during their final days and see if the prices get severely slashed.
Best Buy has this week’s sole deal – Warhammer Online for $30; normally $50. If you’ve been hanging out for a price drop now would be a good time to get on board. Granted, if you want it you’ve probably gotten it by now.
When it comes to MMOs, I lean towards games free from monthly payments. Guild Wars is more of a single-player game with an online component and tons of PVP, but it is free to play online after buying it. Lately I’ve been gravitating towards Shin Megami Tensei Online, a free-to-download and free-to-play game set in the SMT world.
There are a lot of free MMOs out there to keep you busy if you’re in-between games. Looking at the release schedule for consoles, it’s easy to see there’s not a lot of RPGs coming out for them. Some of these free MMOs are decent time wasters. Some of them are even full retail games that have gone free to play, like Sword of the New World and RF Online. This site has a list of some to try. Just watch out for spyware, and make sure you read disclaimers before signing up.
Or buy a DS and enjoy the tons of games coming out for it. But that doesn’t save you money.
Enjoy your week with a fuller wallet. And hit up the deals thread in the RPG/Video Game forum if you have anything to share.
Disclaimer: Deals may not be available in all stores. Prices in each store may differ. You can try different stores to mitigate this, and always ask if a store has it before writing them off. You might be able to get a raincheck. A lot of these deals are in-store only, except where specified.
