Shop Watch June 2010

By Russ | June 1, 2010 at 11:23 pm

June is an awkward month for RPGs.  A lot of the releases originally scheduled for June are showing up later in the year, and the releases in June outside of Alpha Protocol are a little weak.

Seriously, I think I’ll play more Resonance of Fate and 3D Dot Game Heroes.

Titles shipping June 1

Alpha Protocol, published by Sega (360, PC, PS3).  I covered this last month.  Sadly, June’s pretty light so here it is again.  Remember, K-Mart is offering this game for $45 in-store from June 1 to June 5.

Record of Agarest War, published by Aksys (360).  A standard edition is made available for the game.  No boob mouse pad for you!

Titles shipping June 8

Disgaea Infinite, published by NISA (PSP).  This is not the game you want it to be – some type of randomly generated SRPG romp through all of Disgaea worlds.  Instead, this is a visual novel set in the Disgaea universe, featuring a Prinny attempting to solve a murder case but stuck in a time loop.  It’s like CSI: Cash-in, except it uses NISA’s own proprietary text adventure engine.

Mega Man Zero Collection, published by Capcom (DS).  While we’re not talking about RPGs this week, here’s an awesome compilation of games.

Titles shipping June 22

Puzzle Quest 2, published by D3 Publisher (DS).  I do not know much about the title, but there’s puzzles and questing, and the first title did very well.  Of course, Galactrix garnered quite a few negative reviews; so wait and see, I guess.

Titles shipping June 29

N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights, published by Konami (360). A little bit of Dynasty Warriors with more onscreen enemies to kill than most games, N3II’s all-over-the-place title is akin to its gameplay.  Hopefully, leveling characters is less tedious and committing genocide is even more fun in this sequel.

Some Advice:  Alpha Protocol is a Sega title.  It will drop in price.  Heck, its initial run has $15 off the title.  This will easily be $40 in a few months.

Puzzle Quest 2 will be $20 in the same amount of time.  Agarest – well, if you did not buy the Naughty Edition you probably were not interested to begin with.  And non-CE Aksys games drop pretty fast as well.  N3II is a tough call.  I’d wait, personally.

Pick up the Megaman Zero Collection.  It’s the only sure bet this month.

The Future:  Where in the Hell’s my Valkyria Chronicles 2?  This bears research.  Front Mission Evolved and Two Worlds 2 are now Fall releases.  Arc Rise Fantasia is a July release, along with Persona 3 Portable.  Outside of the latter two titles, prepare for a slow summer.

All retail games (with the exception of those marked as street-dated) will be in stores one day after their release. Release dates also tend to be shipping dates. All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download will have varying release. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.
