Another year; another January ending with a major release.
It’s also the only RPG release for the month.
Titles shipping the week of January 30
Final Fantasy XIII-2, published by Square-Enix (360, PS3). FFXIII-2 is a time travel/dimension-hopping tale starring former damsel in distress Sera in some sort of fusion between a catsuit and a miniskirt. There’s also a moogle and what appears to be an artist avatar. The battle system is mostly the same with added quick time events, and pocket monsters more in the vein of the MegaTen or Dragon Quest series. But Hell, the title has a demo available so go try it out yourself.
I genuinely liked the first title enough to get the second one. I don’t know if FFXIII-2′s level design will be as linear as FFXIII, but the time the game did open up there was a lot of fun stuff to do.
A collector’s edition is also available.
Some Advice: Wait for the price to drop unless Final Fantasy games are your crack. And even then it’s a good time to break the habit.
The Future: Kingdoms of Amalur, Mass Effect 3, Devil Survivor 2, Tales of the Abyss 3DS, Tales of Graces F… the year may be a good one yet.
