Shop Watch March 2013

By Russ | March 2, 2013 at 10:18 pm

Niche games and addictions rule March.  Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection was released in February on the PSN for the Vita and PSP.

Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk, published by Tecmo-Koei (PS3).  The Atelier series sees its fourth NA PS3 release.  This time NISA is only handling the translation, not the other stuff associated with previous Atelier releases.  Like a Japanese track.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, published by Capcom (3DS, WiiU).  This is a re-release of Monster Hunter 3 on the Wii, with added stuff.  I’m pretty sure Monster Hunter is the most delicious addiction ever.  My original PS2 copy remains in a sealed box, covered with ancient runes and inscriptions meant to repel addicts like me.  My wife placed it there so I would go to work.  Ironically, she plays Monster Hunter Freedom on a semi-regular basis.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, published by Nintendo (3DS).  Speaking of delicious addictions… oh, wait.  This is a Mystery Dungeon game.  Still good, mind you.

HyperDimension Neptunia Victory, published by NISA (PS3).  It’s easy to miss NISA titles since the titles tend to be only initially available on the NISA online store.  Victory is the the series third installment, not the fifth – don’t let the large “V” on the cover full you.

Pandora’s Tower, published by Xseed (Wii).  I never thought all of the Operation: Rainfall games would make it over, but here is the last one of the bunch. Of course…

Final Fantasy XI: Seeker of Adoulin and Final Fantasy XI: Ultimate Seekers Collection, published by Square-Enix (360, PC).  … If you were to have told me there’d be another FFXI release this late in the game I’d’ve just laughed right at you.  With the double contraction.

Some Advice:  FFXI if you want it. There’s no way retailers are going to want this cluttering up shelves. The collector’s edition of HyperDimension Neptunia Victory appears to be sold out as of this posting.  Atelier Ayesha is a hard title to gauge.  Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate may sell out initially but more copies will be released as per Capcom’s history.

The Future:  The new Dragon’s Dogma is actually more like a Game of the Year edition with extra content.  Lots of portable titles, too – like Atlus’ Soul Hackers and Sony’s Soul Sacrifice.

All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download will have varying or staggered release dates. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.  This column brought to you by a January’s release.  Yep.  Still playing it.
