Action, Real-time Strategy, Turn-Based, and Tabletop-inspired RPGs this month? A veritable buffet.

Action RPG Steel Rising hits the week of August 8 for the PS5 and Xbox X. Set in an alternate history where the French Revolution involves robot soldiers, players take on a special prototype to save the day by choosing their preferred playstyle and upgrading skills and parts to accommodate.

The Diofield Chronicles is a real-time strategy RPG featuring a blonde vampire who can stop time and take credit for everything.

Okay, it isn’t about a blonde vampire narcissist. It is a real-time SRPG though, with advertisements skewing it to the political intrigue. The demo is available to try out. The game releases September 22.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero hit PS4 and Switch systems at the end of the month. A sequel to the Trails in the Sky games, a prequel to the Trails of Cold Steel series, and an explanation of like 25% of the cast in the last Cold Steel game; Trails from Zero focuses on the Crossbell region and forms the bridge between the previously released Trails games. The game utilizes the same system as the Sky series, but the adventure is all-new and hasn’t been brought stateside before this outing.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is seeing a console release on the 29th. Though a sequel to the Kingmaker game, the story does not appear to be connected story wise. It is also a video game adaptation of the Pathfinder tabletop RPG.

Valkyrie Elysium also hits the same day as the above two titles. It seems odd one of the rarest PS1 RPGs would have three sequels but this timeline has long stopped making sense. The series is typically about a Valkyrie recruiting soldiers to become Einherjar, and then getting involved in an overarching plot. After that it’s mostly being a bonus boss in tri-Ace games.

Seriously, Square is kicking it with two titles this month, another Star Ocean, new IP Harvestella, and a Tactics Ogre upgrade on the books for the rest of this year. Rumor has it SaGa Frontier 2 is in the works for a remaster/re-release early next year.

Finally, spiritual sequels to Wild Arms and Shadow Hearts on Kickstarter at the moment under Armed Fantasia & Penny Blood. The games won’t be released until 2025, but the campaign ends within a month.
