Age of Conan to reduce servers by more than half

Funcom announced that they have begun reducing the number of servers for Age of Conan. Currently using 49 servers, Funcom plans to reduce this to only 18, indicating a drastic drop off in subscription players.

According to senior community manager Oliver “Tarib” Kunz, the start of the mergers began Jamuary 7, when the U.S. server Hyperborea combined with Bloodspire. Dates for other mergers will be revealed this week, he said.

Originally thought to be a sucessful MMORPG, with a release date in late May, Age of Conan initially sold over 800k retail copies by August.  It appears Funcom has been unable to hold on to their subscribers, however.
