RPG Deals 4/19 – 4/25

Best Buy tries really, really hard.

They’ve totally got Fable II and Fallout 3 for $50 this week. That includes the PC version of Fallout 3 because it is always $50.

I’ve been wandering around looking for deals lately, but my ability to stumble upon them has been down. Toys R Us, once a haven for most things discounted, has jack. Best Buy cannot decide what deal they should be running. K-Mart barely has games. GameStop’s main deals revolve around trading in old games. I personally don’t go for that – with RPGs a little patience tends to net you a bit more on the internet or through an actual person, plus the cash it nets can be spent anywhere.

When the physical wandering fails, the internet wandering begins. While exceedingly old news to the rest of the world, I recently discovered Ahriman’s Prophecy, a free RPG by Amaranth Games. The sequels, Aveyond and Aveyond 2, cost about $10 apiece to download. However, I’ve noticed Amazon.com running Buy 1 Get 1 Free specials in the past for downloadable games. Picking up a copy of Aveyond from Amazon would get you another game or its sequel; better yet the price would be around $7 for the set. That is if the deal is running. It’s best to check back every now and again.

Digital distribution is not limited to Amazon, despite how much I hock them. Rememebr to check place like GameTap, Steam, and even GameStop for some other choices. I’ll leave the ability to Google them in your hands.

In the past I’ve spoken about downloadable content and its ability to extend gameplay. That $50 copy of Fallout 3 from Best Buy can be extended with its own DLC on the 360. The $30 Valkyria Chronicles from GameStop’s Game Days sale can be expanded with the recently released DLC. The two missions and Hard Ex mode are $5 apiece through the Playstation Network. The Selvaria mission is pretty cool, but I have yet to purchase the Edy mission. The best part about these games is playing through something not in the game already. I get a little cheesed when I expend $5 – $10 for something that was already on the disc. Resident Evil 5 did this with its versus mode.

That’s all for this week. Remember to hit up the forums if you have a deal to share. Happy hunting.

Disclaimer: Deals may not be available in all stores. Prices in each store may differ. You can try different stores to mitigate this, and always ask if a store has it before writing them off. You might be able to get a raincheck. A lot of these deals are in-store only, except where specified.
