Shop Watch November 2010

Four titles this month, and all of it is handheld fare.  But it’s the king of handheld fare – without being a Pokemon release.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is a solid title.  Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is a release many never thought would happen but still anticipated. These two titles bookend the month nicely.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana, published by Xseed (PSP).  This is a very strong game to begin the month with.  I hope Xseed and Falcom’s deal of releasing Ys games to the North American market is paying off well, because the Ys series has been a fantastic addition to the PSP library.  You can read the review for Oath in Felghana here.

Knights in the Knightmare, published by Atlus (PSP).  This got delayed?  I must have missed out.  The game still comes with the Yggdra Union download token.

Rune Factory 3: A Fantasy Harvest Moon, published by Natsume (DS).  I guess the endearing popularity of the Harvest Moon series has also been supporting its sister series.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, published by Nintendo (DS).  I never thought this game would grace a release list, to be honest.  After several years, it looks like the Golden Sun saga will finally conclude.  This is a small – and pleasant – milestone for portable gaming.

Some Advice:  Again, use discretion for Knights in the Knightmare when ordering it.  It may be hard to find later.

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn will remain around for a bit.  Historically, these games hit the bargain bin before becoming a little hard to find.

Get the limited edition of Ys: The Oath in Felghana if you want it.  The Ys Seven LE is not a quick find and becomes harder to find each day.  The standard version of Oath in Felghana may not survive the Holiday Season.

The Future:  World of Warcraft: Cataclysm kicks off December.  DC Universe Online is now March of next year.  The first few months are very PSP friendly, with God Eater Burst, Tactics Ogre, and Lord of ArcanaMass Effect 2 is an early 2011 release.

Geez.  2011 so soon?

All retail games (with the exception of those marked as street-dated) will be in stores one day after their release. Release dates also tend to be shipping dates. All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download will have varying release. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.
