RPG Deals 7/24 – 7/31

This is just one of those weeks where there’s more advice than substance.

Which means there are no deals this week. So let’s talk about something else?

It’s been brought up before, but several titles go on sale for $15 – $25 off within a week or two of release. Sometimes it’s best to wait and double-check. If there’s not some type of pre-order bonus and you have the patience, it seems to be the better action to take. Personally, it’s what I’ve been doing. There are only two games I am purchasing upon release this year: Catherine and Dark SoulsCatherine because I liked the demo; and Dark Souls because Demon’s Souls was one of my favorite games upon release.  As it stands, K-Mart is prepared to have a deal on Dark Souls, possibly making a release pick-up entirely worth it.  Aside from the previously mentioned two, I’ll be waiting for anything else to hit a price dip, and recommend it to everyone reading this.

One of the projects I’ve been working on is getting all my games shelved.  I tend to keep what I purchase; letting them go when another version is released.  RPGs tend to lose less value than other genres, so resale through Amazon or e-Bay is more profitable.  You’ll almost never get the value of the game being sold back, yet the amount will almost always be greater than unloading the game to GameStop or a similar service.

Back on track, shelving material is less expensive than one might think.  Stopping at Best Buy or walking through Target may have revealed $80 – $120 shelves.  However, there are cheaper versions out there.  Heck, Target just sold six foot shelf last week for $25.  Places like Lowe’s or Home Depot’s lumber sections offer free cutting of lumber.  Two 10’x1’x1″ pieces of lumber might be $8 apiece, but cutting one board in half, and the other in four or five equal pieces will net mos the materials for a shelf.  A $2 pack of nails, a hammer, and a ruler will take care of the rest.  It will provide much better support than an Atlantic shelf; which I might add most of this weekend has been spent repairing with said lumber.

Buying the shelving might be simpler, but getting +2 to your woodworking skills has its own charm.

Happy Hunting.

Disclaimer: Deals may not be available in all stores. Deals may stop and any time.  Prices in each store may differ. You can try different stores to mitigate this, and always ask if a store has the item before leaving the store. You might be able to get a raincheck. Many deals are in-store only, except where specified.  This column brought to you by ah, the shelf is fini- OH GOD THERE”S BLOOD EVERYWHERE!
