RPG Deals 10/14 – 10/20

The usual holiday deals begin – but this year there’s a twist.

Toys R Us is offering a sale on $59.99 games.  Buy two games at the aforementioned price and receive a $50 gift card.  This deal appears to be in-store only.  In previous years this deal would ‘buy 2 get 1 free’ on all games. I wonder if this will set the stage for when Best Buy or Target have similar deals later in the year?

K-Mart is offering $5 off select DS games.  Among the titles are Pokemon Black 2 and White 2.  K-Mart is also offering an extra 25% off clearance games, but those titles vary from store to store.

Target has Final Fantasy XIII-2 for $15 this week.

Amazon.com is offering the “Absolutely Great Square Pack” for $10.  In consists of several games, including Deus Ex: Human Revolution and The Last Remnant.  It looks as if all games can also download from Steam.

This is the season of the multipack.  Stores will often sell packs of games together in order to move old stock.  And most of these packs suck.  Every now and again a gem will shine through, though.  Last year it was the PSP Monster Hunter games.  Looks like this year it will be Yakuza: Dead Souls and Binary Domain.  I’ll try to list known packs here as I see them.

Of course, there’s also collections of games.  EA ha s a scheduled release of a Mass Effect Trilogy for both systems coming out this winter.  There’s a couple other non-RPG titles getting collected.  This year alone has seen a large boom for these types of titles.  Sony seems particularly fond of the compilations since every first-party title save Uncharted is seeing a compilation.  Hopefully more RPG-related titles will show up.  It may be easy to hate on Kingdom Hearts, but its release could open the door for more titles.  I certainly wouldn’t mind a PS2 Grandia or Suikoden collection.

But back on track – if the collection is exclusive to the store, the store will promote it.  Check on new arrivals if shopping online, or on endcaps if shopping in the store.  Endcaps are the ends of shelving facing the main lanes.  New releases will also contain any new publisher collections.

That’s all I got for this week.  Happy Hunting.

Disclaimer: Deals may not be available in all stores. Deals may stop at any time. Prices in each store may differ depending on location. You can try different stores to mitigate price differences, and always ask if a store has the item before leaving the store. You might be able to get a raincheck. Many deals are both in-store and online. This column brought to you by Resident Evil 6.  Needs more “Leon! Haaaaaaalp!” I kid.
