Shop Watch October 2013

By Russ | October 9, 2013 at 6:06 pm

This week is a big week.

Pretty much 90% of people wanting Borderlands 2 probably bought Borderlands 2; but then I just made up that statistic. Good way to open a week, with Pokemon Chromosomal Wonderlands closing it out fantastically.

Borderlands 2: Game of the Year Edition, published by 2K Games (360, PC, PS3). In typical 2K fashion, a GOTY edition has been announced for one of their titles with an epic amount of DLC. Please don’t let my wife find out about this. We will never stop playing Borderlands. I had to pretend the 360 broke down to move on to a different game for the first one.

Disgaea D2, published by NISA (PS3). More Disgaea, but this adventure looks to pick up with Laharl, Etna and Flonne in the latest sequel to the Disgaea strategy RPG series. Expect huge numbers to blow across the screen.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, published by Nintendo (3DS). These two games will be released on Saturday. I really don’t talk about Pokemon games since they have their installed user base pretty squared away and – …Are you trading with yourself already?

Valhalla Knights 3, published by Xseed (Vita). The VK series is pretty decent, and like several of the larger named RPGs coming out of Japan tends to refine itself as the series progresses. The focus of the series is party customization and lots of questing. The first game is available for free download on the PSN to celebrate the release of the VK3. Or you can read the reviews on the site here, here and here.

Deus Ex Human Revolution: Director’s Cut, published by Square-Enix (360, PS3, Wii U). Ha ha! I just typed the words Wii U in reference to a game release not involving Monster Hunter for probably the first time. Deus Ex is a fun game, and this version boasts new challenges that should probably be read “game as most/all of the DLC”. Each version also communicates with some form of data receptacle: PS3 to Vita, Wii U to its controller, and the 360 to a tablet. Definitely a good game if you missed it the first time.

Some Advice: Everything here will have a price drop or a deal.

The Future: The next Ys game arrives in November, and NISA is suppsed to show some love with their next title The Guided Fate Paradox. South Park: The Stick of Truth arrives by year’s end, and then it’s pretty much 2014 from there on out.
