Like, enjoy all of them. At once.
First off, Lost Odyssey is a free download until December 31. Free in the sense that paying or registered customers with Xbox’s service can download it with minimal hassle. It’s also likely the best RPG of the PS3/360 generation. I’ve said this before, but if there was a direction Final Fantasy should have gone in after FFXII, it was Lost Odyssey. I can safely extend that to a lot of JRPGs. The JRPG has remained too focused on its younger fanbase, and the current ones I do have a chance to play come off as naive and trite or simply rely on bad storytelling to set up the dramatic moments. Partially a reflection of myself, but mostly a reason to play Lost Odyssey. It avoids many common JRPG traps and presents itself as a mature title without relying on violence, sex, or language. A lot of this is helped along by the game’s excellent short stories players can unlock, but mostly by the situations many of our protagonists find themselves experiencing across the game. Prepare for a heavy dose of ‘adult fear’ at certain points.
Target has a buy one get one 50% on select titles; Fallout 4 and Skyrim: Special Edition among those.
Best Buy is selling the Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited for $5 until 12/20.
Exist Archive, by the team behind Star Ocean, is under $17 on Amazon at this moment.
That’s it for this week. Happy Hunting.
