Shop Watch October 2021

Whoa! Slow down world, with your crazy remasters and spontaneous collections!

No seriously – there was a Nintendo Direct and suddenly Actraiser: Renaissance and a freaking GBA Castlevania collection was available on multiple platforms. Impulse bought? Yeah, you know it.

(Also don’t actually slow down this cool stuff. Give me more Quintet games, please.)

Actraiser: Renaissance is a remake of the original SNES Actraiser title. So far the changes involve a lot more use out of the real-time world-building simulation, where you encourage an area’s growth while shooting down monsters. The changes add a tower defense game and NPCs to level up.

The Castlevania Advance Collection has Circle of the Moon, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, and the SNES release of Rondo of Blood; called Dracula X in the states. It’s a pretty beefy collection and comes with a rewind feature to make the re-releases less stressful. I may have heard some hate on those features, but I’m not 14 anymore with a whole day to waste perfecting a level so shush! Adults are gaming.

Deltarune 1 & 2 was released on consoles for free at the same time as the above.

Phoenix Point sees an October 1st release. It is a tactical strategy game with some of the minds of X-COM behind the title.

Disciples: Liberation is another tactical game out on the 21st. Don’t want ci-fi? Here’s the fantasy counter to Phoenix Point.

Surprise releases have been more of a regular event lately. The future is weird.
