Shop Watch October 2023

When opening Halloween candy, make certain no one tried to stock it with bad RPGs.

Because if someone puts a PS1 copy of Shadow Madness in my Twix; we’re gonna rumble.

Speaking of which, Shadow Madness is available for PC. It’s much more playable in that form.

NIS America is going to rule the charts for RPGs this month. The company is putting out the majority of October’s releases.

Silent Hope begins the month. This title takes players through a world without words; the goal to restore communication. I can imagine the cast are silent protagonists in this action RPG. Also? Farmer class looks amazing.

A score for video game preservation hits Switches this week: Front Mission 2. One of the series’ previously unreleased NA titles, this mech-based strategy RPG has deep unit customization and a bit of challenge.

Disgaea 7 is the first of no less than 3 NIS America games this month. Set in what appears to be feudal Japanese hell (Disgaea Jigoku?), the extreme stats, levels, item dungeons and other features return with allies and enemies capable of increasing size to become city-smashing stat sledges. If you like Disgaea; you’ve already pre-ordered it.

A release of Borderlands 3 for the Switch hits the system on October 6. The first two games are a blast.

The most recent Sword Art Online game hit this week as well.

The Caligula Effect 2 for PS5 is supposed to release October 17. PS4 and Switch copies are currently available.

Same day is remake/reboot of Lords of the Fallen, a 2014 title.

Finally, CryMachina hits PS4/5 and Switch on October 24. Hailed as a spiritual successor to 2019’s CryStar, CryMachina follows android protagonists attempting to become human.

That’s all I have for this month. Hope you find something to your liking.
