Shop Watch February 2024

If I had a Persona, it would probably be summoned by shooting myself in the foot.
It’s how I get through life, leastways.
Persona 3 Reload hits February 2 for PS4/5 and Xbox Series X (XboxX? XSeX?). There’s a spiffy collector’s edition as well with an Aigis statue and CD soundtrack. Reload looks to implement a lot of changes from Persona 4 and 5, which are welcome for people like me who don’t often have the time or energy to dungeon crawl like we did in the first Persona.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an action RPG, and the latest iteration in the series which includes a cell phone and fighting games. The character designs are nice, and the graphics look good. The title release February 1, 2024.
A physical copy of Front Mission 1st Remake is due out on February 20th. The digital edition is currently available for PS5 and Switch.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth closes out the month of February. Literally, it’s being released on the last day of a leap year. The second part of the remake looks every bit as good as the first part; which will last until Organization XIII shows up and makes me bitter.
Look, I’m gonna soapbox. The FFVII remake has been good for characterization and kinda meh for everything else. Sakaguchi was great at tackling multiple different ideas. Nomura can do dark and light. The battle system also is designed to just drag out fights with systems displaced from Dissidia. I strongly recommend trying the demo of the first game before investing time into these games, especially in light of other available titles.
Not a February release, but pre-orders have to be completed by the 11th: The Cosmic Fantasy Collection for the Switch is a re-release of the first two titles from the TurboGrafx-16. The games are not great, and more in-line with early Dragon Quest titles; but the oddball plot twists earned the second title a place in my heart.
March has Unicorn Overlord, which at this point I am still pretending is a Grimdark Fantasy take on My Little Pony.
Spoilers! It’s not.
