New Square Enix trademarks point to more Dragon Quest remakes

It should be reiterated that trademarking a title in no way confirms its existence, but with Square Enix’s well-established love of remakes and recent announcement of three Dragon Quest revamps, this bit of news was sure to raise hopes of Dragon Quest fans.

German siteGamefront.de reports that Square Enix has trademarked the following:

  • Akuryou no Kamigami (“Pantheon of Evil Gods”), as part of the title Dragon Quest II: Akuryou no Kamigami
  • Soshite Densetsu e… (“And to the legend…”), as part of the title Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu e…
  • Michibikareshi Monotachi (People Are Shown the Way”), as part of the title Dragon Quest IV: Michibikareshi Monotachi. This was also the title of Dragon Quest IV‘s PlayStation remake.
  • Tenkuu no Hanayome (“Bride of the Heavens”), as part of the title Dragon Quest V: Tenkuu no Hanayome. This was also the title of Dragon Quest V‘s PlayStation 2 remake.
  • Maboroshi no Daichi (“Illusion’s First Place” or “Land of Illusion”), as part of the title Dragon Quest VI: Maboroshi no Daichi
  • Eden no Senshi-tachi (“Eden’s Warriors”), as part of the title Dragon Quest VII: Eden no Senshi-tachi
  • Eternal Wheel
  • Staticarts
  • Many of these subtitles were the subtitles of the games’ respective older versions, but the news here is that Square Enix is trademarking things anew, which logically would suggest that the company is considering, if not (re)making, these titles for a new system, and in the future, perhaps an English translation. Those details cannot be confirmed at this time, however.
