MMORPGs Love Valentine’s Day

Here’s a brief look around the Valentine’s Day events going down in some of the biggest games in MMORPGLand:

Ditching the love and passion common to the holiday, Warhammer Online has players getting into murder.

Turbine is holding a screenshot contest in Dungeons and Dragons Online. On till the 21st, it features prizes such as 500 turbine points. Shiny.

Norrath calls Valentine’s Day “Erollisi Day,” and it’s on this day that players pursue quests named after popular songs, like “Shot Through the Heart,” and “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” Monster have a chance of dropping love notes and sweet candies, as well. The original EverQuest, meanwhile, seems to be handing out “Shots of Love.” Kinky.

Still in Norrath, Sony’s card-wielding Legends of Norrath is holding a love-themed poetry contest. Enter before March 9.

Trickster has opened the Lonely Hearts Club, which ended on the 10th, and currently is holding special bonuses in Gacha towns.

Star Wars Galaxies is all about the Ewoks. Players are competing in timely games for Chak Hearts and trading them in for stuff like halos, flowers, wings, and Ewok Festival of Love paintings.

Not necessarily about Valentine’s Day but still a festival around this same time, Final Fantasy XI‘s Doll Festival will go from Feb. 19-March 3.

World of Warcraft players will recognize Blizzard’s Love is in the Air celebration. Among other things, there are special quests in place which yield tokens, which are then used for festive items from Lovely Merchants. Spray people with cologne, toss them samples from boxes of chocolates, and so on.

The realms of Dark Age of Camelot will be filled with love quests, as the Herald reports:

# A Matter of the Heart: This quest will give players of all realms the chance find the imp, Russel, near the gates of their capital cities, ready to offer some interesting tasks from the local imp’s union in return for a Lawn Cupid trophy, experience and coin.
# The Keeping Company: This quest will be offered to characters level 45 and above and will have a unique challenge for players in Albion, Midgard and Hibernian. As a reward, players will receive a Tiny Compatriot Crate trophy, experience and coin.
# The Valentine’s Traditions: These quests will offer three old style quests which were part of the original Dark Age of Camelot Valentine’s Day content. Players will be able to complete the quest up to three times, which is based on the number of times the original quest has been issued online. Players will be rewarded with a Hearts Cloak, Heart-Shaped Box, experience and coin.

Nexon is putting on the “Be My Valentine” event in Maple Story, which entails the making of actual, physical, real valentines for NPC and sending them to the company. Prizes on the line include 10,000 Maple Points, a King Pepe plushy, and an SD memory card.

And we’ll close with a look at Ragnarok Online. The North American version of the game is presenting some special quests like helping a whining boy who is upset about not getting any chocolate on Valentine’s Day and listening to grandpa’s stories about how much he loves grandma.
