Shop Watch June 2011

Dungeon Siege III and Agarest Zero are the new titles this month, but Oblivion is being re-re-released as well.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls is available on the PSN.  This game is so old school it hurts.  Literally; I’ve died tons of times in some soul-wrenching fashion.  By “soul-wrenching”, I mean “Oh yeah!  My Gnome Bishop is finally level thre- no wait she’s dead and I’m too broke to get her back.”  It is a fun game, and relies heavily on thinking ahead.

Record of Agarest War Zero, published by Aksys (PS3, 360).  Is your bottle of lotion nearby?  Because you might need to rub it on your… hands when you play this title, if the advertising is anything like the previous entry.  Unlike the previous entry, both the limited edition and standard edition are available on the same day.

Dungeon Siege III, published by Square-Enix (360, PS3, PC).  I like how the title leaves nothing to the imagination.  Indeed, the siege of dungeons will be of most importance during this action RPG.  It’s pretty fun and worth a try.  Unlike recent dungeon romps like Daggerdale, Dungeon Siege III doesn’t tear terribly as you play it and seems to maintain its good graphical quality.

Oblivion: 5th Anniversary Edition, published by 2K Games (PC, PS3, 360).  If you missed out on Oblivion’s three prior releases, now’s the time to get it.  This edition comes with a $10 coupon for Skyrim, which releases later this year.

Some Advice:  Record of Agarest War Zero will hit $30 – $40 pretty quickly.  Dungeon Siege III will probably be on special at some point.  The new edition of Oblivion won’t hold even its $30 value long.  The PSN has sales all the damn time, so Wizardry will hit that.  However; at $15, Wizardry is already a good price.

The Future:  E3 is occurring as we speak, so announcements are forthcoming.  Final Fantasy XIII-2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim apparently are slated for release by the end of the year, and Atlus has announced Persona 2: Innocent Sin Portable for release.  Let’s see what else is in store for the future next month.

All release dates are subject to change.  Games available for download will have varying or staggered release dates. The views of this column do not reflect the views of RPG Land.
