Content Break: Cleaning Up Tsunami Damage
By Heath | September 16, 2011 at 6:43 pm
Hey all. Thanks for reading RPGLand.com. Seriously, we can’t thank you enough for validating our work. I was tempted to put a joke there, but this is serious time — a marked rarity on this website, I know. We wanted to let you know that there will be a bit of a delay in our content roll, as Janelle and I are moments from boarding a bus that will take us up to Iwate prefecture. We’re going North to do volunteer service to clean up tsunami damage. The day that happened, I knew at some point we had to go up there and help. The Japanese people have been flocking to help the area and have banded together with great strength. Our long-awaited opportunity has come, so Janelle and I are jumping on it. We’re sorry about the slowdown in content, but really, we’re not actually “sorry” because that would imply some sort of regret. Media coverage of the tsunami has surely decreased since it’s not longer breaking news, but trust me, there’s still a ton of work to be done. People are still without homes up there and entire towns are still awaiting the day a rebuild can begin. Donate something to the Red Cross, please. Thank you.
Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance hands-on (TGS)
By Heath | September 16, 2011 at 5:40 am
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance continues the series trend of increasingly nonsensical names, but goes a complete 180 by finally being a Nintendo-specific Kingdom Hearts title that is actually good.

Yakuza Black Panther 2 hands-on preview (TGS)
By Heath | September 15, 2011 at 9:16 pm
I had a good, if technologically hampered experience with Kurohyou: Ryu Ga Gotoku Shinshou (Black Panther: Yakuza New Chapter) for PSP recently, so I was excited to give the sequel a go.

Bravely Default: Flying Fairy TGS tech demo hands-on preview
By Janelle | September 15, 2011 at 3:04 pm
Since Bravely Default: Flying Fairy was just announced, it wasn’t playable at TGS in the strictest sense. However, there was a short demo available that was basically a tech demo for an AR cutscene.

Capcom’s booth at TGS this year was showy as usual, and its upcoming Dragon’s Dogma was playable in a dungeonlike corner crowned with a giant red dragon.

2 Ni no Kuni hands-on previews from TGS
By Heath | September 15, 2011 at 7:31 am
Set to release on November 17, Ni no Kuni: Shiroki Seihai no Joou is set to make a big splash in Japan with its special PS3 bundle. Developer Level-5 was conspicuously absent from TGS this year, as it will hold its own “LEVEL5 World” event in October, but fortunately, Ni no Kuni still had a home at Sony’s booth this year, with a boss demo and an exploration demo available. We each got a chance to play both of the demos, which were incredibly well built and showed off in just ten minutes what Ni no Kuni will be like.

TGS hands-on preview – Ragnarok: Princess of Light and Dark
By Heath | September 15, 2011 at 7:22 am
Ragnarok: Princess of Light and Dark is a classic example of a game that might very well be good, but is dealt a disservice by having a really shitty demo. I picked up the game in the middle of a boss fight and the booth guy decided he’d play the game for me by just sort of yelling out which attack to choose. That’s always real cool.
