Indie Report June: premiere edition

By Joseph | June 17, 2009 at 10:35 am

The Indie Report is a new semi-regular column on the goings-on in the Indie RPG world. This month, we have an interview with Amanda Fitch of Amaranth Games, some little tidbits of RPG news, and a review of Eternal Eden. Read on!

The Indie RPG world is definitely a way to save your money in this time of economic stress. Part of my incentive for writing this article is my own, recently, more limited budget. Getting games for your PC at 10-20$ a shot is worth looking into for those looking to save some lettuce (we’re bringing back the ’50’s dollface!) while still enjoying RPGs. But will that $10 be money better spent at the bar? There certainly are some crappy ones out there, and I’ll try to steer you away from those.

This month has seen a couple of bigger releases in the Indie world. First of all, Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled for the Nintendo DS, after nearly a year of delays, has actually released. The 30$ price tag is a bit above the average for games that will normally be covered in this column, but it’s worth checking out. Gamers wanting to know more can check out RPG Land’s preview.

Also, Aveyond: Lord of Twilight, the first part of Aveyond 3 has been released earlier this month by Amaranth games. It’s an RPG Maker game from one of the better known Indie companies. Gamers can download it and play free for an hour, or buy it for $10 price tag at Amaranth’s website.

Should you want more information about Amaranth’s upcoming titles you should check out RPG Land’s exclusive interview.

I also recently reviewed the indie RPG Eternal Eden. It is Blossomsoft’s newest game. It is a good game that is ultimately held back by it’s development platform.

The next Indie Report will feature an interview with Mark Pay, creator of The Spirit Engine 1 and 2, as well as a review of The Spirit Engine 2.

As this is a brand new column I am curious, what more do you, the reader, want out of it?

Drop me a line.

Well, that’s all for now. I’m off to Kansas!
