Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX

By Heath | October 26, 2014 at 2:57 am

I’ve been playing Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD ReMIX and been loving it.  Of course, my loving something doesn’t make it immune to criticism.

For a whimsical introspection on Kingdom Hearts II and how the trip back to Hollow Bastion is a fun one, check this out: Almost 9 Years Later, Kingdom Hearts II Brought Me Back.

For me focusing on how the game’s various aspects come through within the HD Remaster, here’s this: 7 Problems With Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX.

Sense of Wonder Night: Innovative Games at TGS

By Janelle | September 30, 2014 at 10:05 am

Sense of Wonder Night is an annual part of the Tokyo Game Show that celebrates innovation in gaming. The event is usually held right after TGS’s second day, but this year it was held during the precious hours that the show floor was open. Therefore, I don’t expect it to get much press attention, but as a fan of the gaming medium, I’ll do my part to report on these innovative games.

By Janelle | September 20, 2014 at 12:24 pm

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Type-0 for the PSP was never released in the west, so Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One represents a second chance for western fans of the series to get their hands on this game.

Disgaea 5 Hands-on Preview – TGS

By Janelle | September 18, 2014 at 8:38 pm

To go over the basics of Disgaea‘s mechanics seems like a tremendous waste of words; it’s a wacky strategy RPG series with very large numbers and too many quirks to list. If you recognize the name, you probably already know how it plays. What Disgaea fans are wondering, of course, is what new things Disgaea 5 brings to the table. Luckily, the TGS show floor demo did a good job of highlighting some new features.

Bravely Second Hands-on Preview – TGS

By Janelle | September 18, 2014 at 8:34 pm

Bravely Second picks up some time after the first game, and though the original cast are all still alive and well, a new cast of characters takes their place in the demo (though Agnes takes Airy’s place of offering advice on the menu screen).

Hands-on preview of Square Enix’s Dive In service – TGS

By Janelle | September 18, 2014 at 1:39 pm

Square Enix recently announced a service for streaming games from its back catalogue for play on tablets and smartphones, called Dive In. The service will launch on October 9 in Japan with Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy XIII and Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders available for rent at varying prices. Dive In was available to demo on the TGS show floor, with both Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy XIII queued up and ready to go, so I attempted to test both.

The next Ys game, still without an official title, has been reveled as an action RPG to be available for both PS4 and PSV in 2015.  More info is expected from the Tokyo Game Show, Sept. 18-21. The last Ys game was Memories of Celceta, a Vita exclusive that came to North America in the winter of 2013.  Here’s a trailer:

Why Disgaea 5 isn’t Cross-Gen

By Janelle | September 8, 2014 at 9:07 am

Nippon Ichi Software President Souhei Niikawa was asked by Dengeki PlayStation Magazine about why Disgaea 5 was PS4-exclusive instead of cross-generation with PS3.  He said, “Naturally, it crossed our minds.  But if we did that, no matter how you look at it, it would be PS3 software [at its core].  The content of the game would all be PS3 stuff, which we would then appear to have just thrown onto the PS4. We want to be able to offer something that says hey, ‘we were able to make this because it’s on the PS4.’  That’s why it’s on the PS4 only.”
